Sooooo OT: Music copyright
Sooooo OT: Music copyright
I need a song copyrighted. A group is interested in doing it and maybe recording. Any of you have any experience in this area?
You sure this is on the right channel?

Go here
http://www.copyright.gov/
Fill out the appropriate registration form and submit it with a copy of the material and copyright fee.
Haven't copyrighted any songs, but we did copyright the video from Arkayakansas.
After that you can search the web for release form examples which you can use/modify to allow the conditional use of your copyrighted material by others.

I think copyright is automatic in the US. I think registration gives you more legal options in a lawsuit, but if you made it, it's yours whether you file or not.
Also, as Lazer was mentioning there are all sort of creative commons licenses that allow different levels of use by other and allow for different levels of profit by others.
Edit: Doesn't the canoe club have a resident copyright lawyer? Where's Gary?
