Is it starting to get a reliable level or did y'all get some rain? I'm off next weekend and was thinking about coming up to see the fall colors. If it's not reliable yet, I'll probably wait for the third weekend in November.

Sat??? hmmm... normal afternoon style?

What means reliable, Rommie? Got a good rain Wed. Not reg for this time of year, the wet weather springs and feeder creeks, as well as my drive ditch, are all running good. Most years they are dusty dry. The Cadron still needs a rain boost every week or so to stay 2 foot or so, good floating level. It can be done a little lower but there is less current in the pools and less options in the rapids. Good a week from tomorrow?????? dunno
You sure this is on the right channel?

Historically -- the winter paddling season on the Cadron begins November 15 -- you can generally assume you'll have adequate water levels (1.5+ft) 80% of the time thereafter until the trees put on their new leaves in the spring. The National Weather Service anticipates "normal" levels of precipitation over the next couple of months; there may be a slightly increased level of surface runoff due to oil and gas developments but this will will likely contribute more to increased sedimentation than higher river levels following rains. Prolonged periods of sub-freezing temperatures can yield beautiful icicle encrusted runs as the heavily shaded shale bluffs have numerous seeps -- especially between Highway 124 and Pinnacle Springs bridge.

The season generally ends June 15 albeit we've had a couple of exceptions in the past 6-8 years where the summer-time doldrums occurred as early as the first of May. Higher water levels in the late winter and early spring open access to the upper reaches of the north fork and east forks of the Cadron where wildlife is seemingly more abundant and the waters far more lonely.
