"Divorce Boat" for Jessica and Sean

Post by Jessica » Sun Oct 12, 2008 9:04 pm

Hi guys!

For those who don’t already know, Sean Curtis and I are getting married on November 22nd at Mount Magazine State Park. And yes, he is an avid kayaker, and has already been tested by Cowper and crew on many escapades. While we would love to invite all of our friends from the Arkansas Canoe Club, space is limited due to location and large extended families.

As Sean and I begin our new lives together, we cannot wait to share more adventures with this great group of people. One of the ways Sean and I hope to become more involved in the ACC is to expand our paddling to include tandem open boating. Sean and I feel that this will help us to increase our knowledge and skill base and provide us with another means to paddle rivers. (And what open boater doesn’t want to pull us over to the dark side!) :poke: With this in mind we have registered for a tandem whitewater canoe (Esquif Vertige X) and accessories at Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters in Hot Springs. If you would like to contribute to this gift please contact OOO at (501) 767 - one3seven3. Jeremy is helping us keep a list of names associated with this gift so that we can be sure to individually thank all those who contribute. If you were at Rendezvous you probably saw this pretty blue boat at the OOO gear tent (you probably saw us drooling on it all weekend too). And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see us swim in style (or possibly pull off a tandem roll) at a river near you. :hammer: Thanks again, SYOTR!

Jessica,

I was thinking back to a time in my early, 'solo kayaking days' when I needed to rent a canoe ,of all things ,so I cold carry a 'lady-friend' paddling on the Caddo. Naturally it was a busy weekend so I drew the last boat from my outfitter friend. I was thinking of all the nice boats he usually had sitting around doing nothing, but that day it was an old Coleman that looked like the bow has been squeezed over a few degrees :) Best Regards to you both!

Jim

Hey, I'm in!

It's a thing of beauty when a couple paddling tandem has their stuff together, and I'd like to see some of that on places like Richland more often.

And if it goes the other way, hey, carnage is cool too! :poke:

For any of you procrastinators out there (like me), we're in the final countdown week, but there's still time to jump in on this. Here, I'll even make it easy for you: Call Don or Jeremy at 501-767-1373.

Pat & I are in, too. We got married twenty years ago after paddling a tandem canoe together very, very unsuccessfully. Thus, we've only shared rafts since that time. In fact, that may be why she's a yakker today!! But, Jess & Sean may be cut from different cloth & when a couple really can paddle tandem, it's a truly beautiful thing. So, enjoy!!

It doesn't look like it's going to rain for your wedding...I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. :?

Anyway, enjoy the boat...can't wait to see y'all paddle it! :D

Thanks, Debbie for making it easy for procrastinators like the Tuckers. We're in. I told Don he should hire you as his ad man. Best of luck and lots of love to Jessica and Sean. With a tandem canoe, you'll need plenty of both! Just ask this guy http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/mb/vie ... =1&t=10538" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :poke: . The last time we paddled a tandem canoe together (rental from Moores circa 1991), we managed to make it down the Piney upright (which is a good thing too, since we were sitting on our lifejackets), but argued so much that below the Mother I made Dee get in the bow. Dee then put his paddle on across his knees and proceeded to drink copious quanitites of  I don't think he took another stroke the rest of the day. Luckily on that same trip we watched David Powell and Walter May having so much fun playing around in their soloe canoes below the Mother that we decided that we would give that a try. It may have saved our marriage. :D

Sorry Kim, apparently using a picture of Debbie as my avatar was causing some confusion :poke:

I've updated it back to a picture of myself to help you out.

And Thanks for the stories, too!

Hi guys -

Well, we made it through the weekend, and are now officially hitched!

Thanks also to those who have contributed to the divorce boat for Sean and I, and to those who have shared their stories of tandem paddling. We plan to go to OOO on Wednesday and finally bring it home! Now, we have to decide where to store it...

Okay, did someone say something about rain?... We will be ready for a :hammer: in our new Vertige!

Well, it's finally ours!

Sean and I picked up our Vertige X at OOO yesterday and it is sitting happily in our "boat room." Now all we need is some rain! Thanks again to everyone who contributed, you guys made this a reality! You will be getting PMs for mailing addresses shortly. SYOTR! And don't forget your camera... :poke:
