day hikes or touring float recommendations?

Our family is going to be in the Greers Ferry Lake area this week.

Any recommendations for family hikes/floats?
the kids are adventurous 10 yr old and 13 yr old.

Camp at Sugarloaf campground. Then paddle 1/2 mile to Sugarloaf Island. There is a boat dock on the south side.
The trail to the top is spectacular. The view from the top is even better.
The Mossy Bluff trail and the dam visitor center is also a good one. If you are at the dam, check out the fish hatchery. The Game and Fish commission also has a nice trail just above the hatchery.

If we get some rain/runoff there are a couple of places in Fairfield Bay to see. They are caches, All falling together now and Summers Cache. These are small stream and waterfall areas worth seeing and not long hikes. Watch out for poison ivy tho. Indian Rock is a cool area also. Small caves and big rocks to play on. Easy walk right beside a golf course.

Watch out on the Indian Rock trail. Last time we did that, I had a golf ball hit a tree about five feet away from my head. :shock: Literally.

I think Richard is referring to the Collins Creek Trail located at the JFK Rec. area just outside of Heber. There is a parking lot on the left side of the road on the way down to the campground. You can walk down to the creek from here, or you can hike up the trail from the camground. I think it's about a 10 minute walk from one end of the trail to the other. The top of Collins Creek has beautiful waterfalls and is a wonderful place to hang out. The entire creek is very pretty and the water is clear and cold!! Once when the kids and I were walking up the trail, we scared off two deer in the woods. Definitely take time out to go see this area and take your camera. One warning though, keep an eye out for poison ivy in the area.

I also second the recommendation about Mossy Bluff. It's our close-to-home-quick-fix for a hike. It's a about 1.5 miles round trip and crosses a pretty, rocky, creek that's good for "exploring". After a good rain there are some pretty waterfalls along this creek, the rest of the time there's at least some water in the creek. Again, beware of poison ivy. Enjoy!

Ah nice,
we hit the hikes;
pulled out a ton of rainbows down by Lobo Landing;
and i got in sunrise paddles on the lake everyday. Most were FOGGY, but i found my way to Sugarloaf (couldn't see it), hiked to the top (above fog line) and sat on an exposed bluff to watch the sunrise come and burn off the fog. awesome.
I did have one clear morning and had my camera with me.
