OT THE POWER OF WATER

Post by Paddlegal » Tue Sep 23, 2008 9:25 am

I've felt the touch of healing hands, neath the willow trees and birch, cause the water's my religion, and the river is my church. Kenny

Great reminder! Thanks for sharing that video - I used to live in Maine and do miss the snow, not the torrential water damage though.

Swiftwater is powerful, relentless, and predictable to the experienced eye! When the speed of the current is doubled, the force of the water against an object in the current is quadrupled. "the force of the current increases as the square of its speed".
Remember a cubic foot of H2O weighs 62.4lbs!

Can you tell I'm reading up for a swiftwater course!

I do believe you mean pounds of force per cubic foot.

62.4lbs sounds right.

Pint's a pound. Cubic foot is around 60 pints (mmmm...60 pints).
