NWA/South MO Camping. Hey guys. I am looking around for some camp areas that are near by but not too camp sitey. A little more primitive than typical Devils Den site. Any ideas??

Re: Camping
Anyplace in the Ozark National Forest or the Buffalo River. Just park and backpack or paddle in. Doesn't get any better.

Re: Camping
got any specific places you recomend? Been to Buff a lot. We want kind of an area to hike in off the road a little but not far enough to call it a hike and to where we can get all our stuff in with too many problems.

Consider Lost Valley, near Ponca.

Re: Camping
Pedstal Rock has alot of neat little caves. Some are big enough to stay in. Find a way down the ridge and then follow the wall around. Trail is three miles round trip. Don't bother with the Kings Bluff trial not too big of a deal. On top of Sam's Throne would be a cool place to camp. From the parking lot follow the trail to the far side. There is a way to the top that can easily be done with no ropes. Got more but when it comes ta typin i'm a hunt and pecker.

Canoe camping?
When are you going and how far from home are you willing to wander?
The Buffalo is still my pick but if you want to avoid shuttle arrangements and quiet water is your thing then I would recommend launching from Buckville on Lake Ouachita. Paddle to one of the islands or lake shore.

Uhh....don't want to go too terribly far. I was thinking Buff. Buckville would be cool, although I am thinking kind of a dense canpoy of trees lining the river. I guess that is something I had in my head.

Re: Camping
I slept on a cot under a large sweet gum tree at the Carver campground last Friday. Except for one other tent, we had the campground to ourselves. Someday after I am long gone you will be able to camp among giant tree on what was once farm fields that dot the River.
