Re: Help With Earplugs
Doc's ProPlugs are nice!
Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters in Hot Springs has them.
Also NOC.
About $10.00. They seal out water but you can still hear reasonably well.
With consistent use, they help swimmers ear, surfers ear, etc...
You have to get the proper size for your ears.

Re: Help With Earplugs
Doc's also used to have two models - one with a small hole, that supposedly would keep most of the water out, while allowing slightly better hearing.
But it is hard for me to buy that claim - after one roll, I'd think the hole would be blocked by water, so it would be just like the water you get in your ears after any roll. I'd probably go with the "standard" model and focus most on keeping cold water out. There will be some limitations on how well you can hear - even putting on a full coverage helmet cuts down on hearing. Choose your poison.

Re: Help With Earplugs
Been using the Doc's pro ear plugs for a long time.
I wear the vented model because it does allow some what better hearing on a creek run.
Cowper is correct, some times the vents do become clogged and you have to shake your head or take the plug out. The vents do not always clog up but can. I can not remember tho when I got leakage even with the vents, if I do a good job of seating the Doc's in my ear. You cannot just shove these plugs in. Read the instructions and seat them with a bit of rotation in the ear till they feel well seated.
For me the advantages of the vents over powers the water blockage issue.
I also carry the Home Depot yellow plugs with blue leash. If I am gonna do a series of roll practice or want to be sure no water gets in my ear, I put these babies on. So far, I have never experienced leakage with these.
Back to the Doc's Pro plugs. I recommend buying the leash models or using fishing line to make your own leash. I have had the Doc's Pro plugs fall out. The answer to make this less of a problem is making sure you have the right size Doc's and then making sure they are well seated in your ear.
