RENDEZVOUS PEOPLE!!

Post by painterbob » Mon Sep 15, 2008 12:27 am

:D I JUST LIKE TO SAY, to the rest of you a big THANK YOU!! for coming out to support this club. and , a bigger THANK YOU, to all the folks that gave up there time, and hard work to make this happen!! the one thing you can't control is the weather ... but, they did the best they could do with what they had to work with! >>>> an F 4 HURRICANE. i'm not even able to talk about all that went on!... because if you didn't SING in the karaoke session, or come to the film fest .... well ,then you really missed out! so there is no need in talking about the guest " belly dancer" or the sweet deals on paddling gear, but i guess you knew that. oh, and not to mention the classes that went on, and the lessons learned! plus all the new friends... does it get any better?

I thought it was one of the better gatherings we've had. Dave Smith & Susan did a GREAT job, as did all the others who pitched in and made it happen. I would, however, point to serious questions about the canoe drawing that left Buttload Kumpuris owning a very pretty boat! We know it won't stay that way long with him paddling it!!!

The real winner in this boat deal is all my buddies who I've borrowed boats and gear from over the many years. They know that whenever they need a tandem canoe they've got one and they don't ever have to store that big sucker! Crane, it's yours whenever you need it!! :D

By the way I may need to borrow a..........

YEAH!!!

Smaller group, mo intimate, and excellent margarittas!!!

Note to self-- do not spend night in tent with hurricane generated winds swirling around in tree tops...

Also, run shuttle again when group of people want to get on richland at 3pm with cowper. I heard he did a "little" detour up the devil fork to remove a tree... and they came out just as the sun went down over the hills. :poke:

I woulda been caught up in that if my years of jedi training had not kicked in and i was able to resist the dark side... Actually I would've gone if not for events of note to self (above).
Still.. a great weekend and the creek is there for this afternoon!

Double ditto the high quality of this year's Rendezvous!

Relative to that second comment, we were at the put-in well before that. We CHOSE to wait an extra hour so that Billy could paddle safely with a group. That's our story and we're sticking to it. And we didn't remove the tree - we just played with repositioning it a little bit so that Mother Nature can take additional action if she so chooses. More importantly, since it was Sean's first trip down Richland (nice juicy level for a first run!), and only his second or third trip with me, we felt it was a good time to introduce him to the concept of using all available daylight for ongoing adventures. Who wants to get home early and do the laundry? Not me!

It is just lucky for all involved that I had to work today, or Lazer's call to moonlight action might have easily been incorporated into the evening's plans!

This was my first trip to the vous but not the last! You guys are the best. The entertainment, the classes, margaritas, it was all good. The ride home was even better. My first time down cadron was a blast. I could go on all day but just want to say thanks to all for making a newbie feel like an old friend and making this a perfect weekend. I got to fill in some big gaps in my gear and learn things I really needed to know while having the time of my life! Hope to see you all on the river

And, since Louis outbid me on the private kayaking lessons with Lupe, while I was over planning the lesson with Lupe .... I am opening the bid again and asking Lupe to donate another day for ME! I'll pay the same ... why waste a great planned trip ....
And, Louis, since you have tested my boat and like it enough to sneak in and win my private lesson, you have to register for White Water School at the Mulberry in May ....
So, great weekend, wild winds, wild hair do's, great rafting lesson (thanks, and am I qualified to take a trip with you all now?), great great great food and friends!
Thanks for coming out ... I will have some fun pictures of Painter Bob and Mike Beebe holding down the tents while the tornado went close by over Rockport ....
So, Lupe ... can I bid again on the silent auction private lesson and get my planned trip if I donate the money to the Arkansas Canoe Club???

Susan:

Whoever would have figured that a Looziana guy with nearly 30 years government administration employment could have finagled a way to make a bid come out their way? Ha.

Your idea is great. ACC gets double benefit from Lupe's generous donation of paddling lessons, plus two better paddlers after Lupe's instruction. When I was lucky enough to be on a trip on the Little Mo where she was paddling she was very helpful with her tips and encouragement. Definitely I will attend May's Whitewater School. This year was my first one, and it was fantastic, just like Rendezvous and anything else with ACC members. It'd be hard to keep me away. I still appreciate trying out your boat, but I guess my bid steal means I won't be able to do that again. Was the "wild hair dos" above a dig at us bald guys?

Irony of irony, about the time that Louis was apparently penning in his winning bid, I believe Susan was bragging to Mike Beebe and me about her superior skill as a silent auction bidder! Then again, judging from the arm-loads of loot Susan walked away with, I'm not sure I'd want to go head to head with her in a bidding war! :poke:

So, given that the ACC has already been blessed with Susan's many silent auction bids/donations, I think arranging a joint Mike/Susan trip will still work just fine. That is, if Mike will have you along after we apparently conned him into making his own extra contribution!!! Better leave your weekends open - we've got water and warm weather - I say let's seize the day soon!

And for the record, no cash accepted by me...it's all just to raise money for the club. I love kayaking and if I can share that with others, it's all good. If someone is generous enough to contribute to the club for my time, then hopefully that's a win-win-win situation! :D

Ok now, just to be clear... we talking about the Lupe that was leading a bunch of us newbies 1st timing on the upper SFLR? "I'll show you the easy line, follow me", then proceeds to run it backwards??? THAT Lupe?? You payin' for lessons from her? hmmmm
You sure this is on the right channel?

Hi guys -

Here are pictures from yesterday's epic Richland adventure. Thanks to all involved for helping Sean get down the creek safely on his 1st trip, he was all grins last night (but all yawns today...LOL!). There are a few good pictures of the new undercut rock at Roadblock rapid, the tree blocking Long Devils (or is it Big Devils?), and the downed tree at the bottom of Lower Screw Up. Oh yeah, and of course there are also a few of Amos testing out the water temp at the nasty hydraulic ledge above Splat Rock...

I guess if you call the bullying technique of knocking someone's hand out of the way and ripping the paper out of their hand a skill, well then we should all practice that

some people have no manners.. I didn't know we were playing "tackle" silent auction.. Kim Little was gracious enough to let me buy back the PFD that she won fair and square in the auction.. I put it to good use on the Little MO on Sunday.. Thanks to the OOO for donating such a snazzy PFD    .. I love it

Thanks again, Kim!! I really appreciate your kindness!!
I'm livin' my life like its golden
