Sunday 9/14 Cadron 1pm

Post by Lupe » Sun Sep 14, 2008 9:16 am

A few of us are meeting for an afternoon run down the Cadron. Under the bridge at 1pm.

Rumors of buffet at Joe's afterwards. (Wonder who started that rumor?) :poke:

I am really mad at myself. I stayed in and slept in and didn't know the sun came out so nicely and no rain. Gary didn't wake me. I would have been on the Cadron, darn it. Know you all had to had a really nice day on the river.

Wow - I don't ever remember seeing so many trees down along the Cadron (at Cadron Creek Outfitters as well - they had quite a number of trees down at the campground). Apparently a number of new downed trees were added to the few already there from the last storm. I feel a few of them are worrisome given that quite a few newer paddlers/rec boaters/casual paddlers etc. do this stretch. The first rapid after lunch spot wave there are 3 seperate trees down along the right side - a swim or a broach any where along there could really cause trouble for the unsuspecting. Now, in addition to the strainers in the last bend at Daddy's Knee, there is also a fresh tree down around the bend on the right side...and an old strainer blocks the left side. At today's flow at 5 feet or so, it was possible to easily go over the strainer on the left, but at lower levels this will become a river wide blockage.

None of the ones are hard to avoid with good boat control and if you are looking out for them, but again, my concern is greater because of the non-ww paddlers or newer paddlers that frequent this stretch. Especially for the unsuspecting in a rec boat or a rec canoe, one of these strainers could really cause trouble.

Be careful out there!

A nice and sunny day on the Cadron, even for us sleepy heads. Throw in some recovery action, add a Spanish Fly airborne, and we had it all. Afterwards Joe's Pizza with Painter Bob, NewGuy, and Sugar Mtn Gal, sweet.

Yes, someone finally has an uglier contraption than Randy' :poke:

BTW, I found a waterproof camera found on the Cadron hanging from a tree limb. Seems to be fully intact, operational, and dry.
