Lower Buffalo River Cleanup - Oct 3-5 - UPDATE!!!

Post by Richard » Mon Sep 08, 2008 8:21 am

This is a slight change.
We are going to make this a cleanup only weekend. We will be camping at Buffalo Point Friday and Saturday nights.
That way our schedule will match that of the park service. If you do not have a canoe, this is a great chance to paddle with us. The outfitters will be supplying canoes and shuttle. Keep in mind, we are there to collect trash so be prepared to do that.

With that change, Rodger and I have decided on the weekend of Oct 10-13 for the first canoe/kayak camping trip of the season. We will have a near full waxing moon which means it will be up as the sun goes down.

See the note about the cleanup Here.

As far as I know right now, count me in with my Mad River Endurall cargo barge. Will ask Susan tonight when she gets in, but she has said in past her canoeing days are over, reason she bought a kayak.

Eric, since this is in conjunction with the river cleanup, I think I will bring my barge as well. I am looking forward to seeing you there.

This float will also work for the daytrippers. There is a bonus for them if they stick around Buffalo Point for the supper.

Also for anyone without a canoe, they will be provided for free.

The carpooling over to the Buffalo last weekend worked out well enough. Anybody from NWA want to do it OCT3RD-5TH? I've got room for 4 and will give first priority to last weeks passengers, but I'm not the onlyone who could carpool. Let's see who is planning on going!

Please read the first posting in this thread and note the slight change to our plans. We will be camping at Buffalo Point on Friday and Saturday nights rather than on a gravel bar Satruday. We will conform our schedule to match that of the park service to make the cleanup the major emphasis of the weekend.
This is a beautiful section of the river.

Don't you mean the SECOND canoe/kayak camping trip of the fall season or didn't last weekend count.

:D

Really hope I get to go along on the October 10th through 13th trip as well. WOW a 4 day trip to take the holiday on Monday! Will need to split this off as a separate post soon.

Eric, last weekend was a last minute but very wonderful trip. Oct 10-12 will be the first planned trip by Rodger and me now that the Oct 4th trip is dedicated to river cleanup.
I also followed your advice and started another thread for the Columbus Day weekend.

As always anyone who would like to go on a family friendly canoe camping float on the Buffalo is invited.

Anyone want to carpool over to the Buffalo this weekend? I'm leaving Friday sometime and will return Sunday sometime. Would prefer to leave between noon and 3PM Friday, but can wait later if need be.

Send me a PM or call the house or cell if you want to go with me in the Suburban. Got room for 2-3 boats and gear.

Weather and water permitting, we plan to have a Buffalo River overnight float each month of the year.

Anyone coming up from Little Rock for the clean up? I have a pair of float bags there that I need to have brought up from the sale board if it wouldn't inconvienience anyone too much.

Thanks, Eric Esche

Clif, In August there was a gnat problem at Buffalo Point. I doubt we will be bothered this weekend but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. During the cleanup, depending how agressive you are, there may be chiggers and ticks to deal with. Again, probably not a problem but be prepared. DEET works. I carry it but usually don't use or need it.
