Richard, Pentax now has a w-60 on the market with more pixles and a five plus internal zoom and a five power digital zoom. It meets js8 classification, but the w-30 is suposed to go deeper than that. I have as of yet to have any issues with my 30 model. when first starting to shop, I read where a diver took his model 10 to thirty plus feet deep and didn't suffer any water damage. Untill Cannon starts making a waterproof Rebel or something close, Pentax will likely get my future business. I was gifted once with a waterproof Cannon with very limited abilitys. It was a film camera. I do not know when, but it aquired a little dose of water inside, despite my taking rather extreem care of it. It now resides with the rest of the cameras I've owned and/or killed over the years. Good luck!

turboturtle, thank you for the heads up. I went ahead and ordered the GoPro from LL Bean. I had a Canon 3.2 meg and it finally gave out. Upgraded to a Canon 8 meg. I find it consumes a lot of computer space. For on the river I want something that is not as big. I may be disappointed with the GoPro and if I am I can send it back. The Pentax W60 was on top of my list until I saw RomanLA's pictures.

Richard, You might want to look at the new Helmet Hero Wide. It has 5 mgpx, video and is wide angled... It might work better for our uses...

That's a good price on the GoPro. That new version looks nice too. Mine started having some problems (all of the pictures had a pink hue). They replaced it with a brand new camera and threw in the helmet expansion kit free for my trouble. I picked up an Olympus 1030SW, so I just took a couple of test shots and put it away. I'll probably just end up selling it.
