Hey, hey. hey -- albeit I've completed my survey at Rush I may be in the area and thus might just get the opportunity to at least spend the night with you. Could even give you a complete discourse on the water supply used by the community of Rush during the late 1800s/early 1900s -- seven separate springs served the community -- most folks know of Boiling, Rush and Spout Springs but few have ventured up Cold Hollow and other nearby hollows. And of course there is nearby De Soto Springs -- once renowned for its healing properties.

I can not emphasize too much the importance of staying warm. The weather will try to make you miserable so be prepared for cold and wind.

Go to the link and set the 48-Hour Period Starting: 6pm Fri, Nov 14
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... all&unit=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It will be COLD and WINDY.

Keep in mind this is not a club sponsored event. Each person is responsible for their own welfare.

Gloves while paddling will be essential! Did I say it will be COLD and WINDY?

Cold and Windy, understood!

I will be heading out to meet you all with Eric; I was going to bail out, but after some discussion with several of my dear friends...........well I'm in! Does anyone have an extra pair of poggies I can borrow? I'm borrowing other things from other paddlers in the area just to ensure I keep dry and warm! If it gets unbearably freezing then I guess I'll have to snuggle with you Richard! :D all in jest..................look forward to an eventful and exciting time on the river.........................

LUNCH RECOMMENDATION

Post by Richard » Thu Nov 13, 2008 1:55 pm

I would suggest hot soup for lunch on Saturday.
I will bring a two burner propane stove for general use.

I plan to cook chicken noodle soup Saturday morning and put it in a thermos bottle. I will have that with crackers for lunch.

REMINDER:
NO GLASS OF ANY KIND ON THE RIVER
FOOD MUST BE IN CONTAINER THAT WILL NOT COME OPEN IN A SPILL
DRINK CANS MUST BE IN COOSIES
MESH LITTER BAG MUST BE ATTACHED TO BOAT.

I'm bringing some thermoses too, and Yes Gretchen, I have some gloves, mittens, and/or pogies you can use, as well as a spare tent.

Well, I apologize.

I am out of firewood and haven’t been a cuttin’ yet this year. Still too warm but its getting there!

I’m thinking cold? Wind? Are you kidding me? Sign me up! It doesn’t get any better than that! I’m leaving the Brass Monkey at home, though!

Nice map Richard. I’ve been looking forward to this Run for so long I feel like I have been on the water for two weeks! I did some “Garage Boating” today just for fun! Which mostly consisted of me loading the boat and standing around all day looking at it wishing I were already on the water!

One thing I find puzzling? No matter which way the River runs, it is always a head wind! It changes direction when you get to the end and have to turn around and paddle back up to the trucks!

Mr. Trismegistus? It would be awesome to meet you! I doubt if you remember but I promised you a couple of cold ones for shooting me straight on an inquiry I made concerning the Cadron earlier this season! I’m looking forward to keeping that promise!

I would just like to thank you guys for the opportunity to boat with you. And to Richard for his Ringleadership motivation! I do this so that in the inevitable event that you guys decide that I have horned in enough for one Run and ask me to move along to the next gravel bar, I will at least have had the opportunity to say “Thank You”!

I think I will coat my nose with zinc oxide and act like its Another Day in Paradise! Oh wait! I won’t even have to act!

I get the feeling I am going to wonder why it took me so long to hook up with you guys!
Keep Your Stick in the Water!
-Terry-

Well, I just got all of mine and Leah's stuff packed. Now I have decided she better stay home. I wish I would have looked at the wind chill chart before I asked her if she wanted to go. I would hate for her to be sick next week at school.
As for me, can't wait to freeze my arse off. Hope to be able to find you guys tomorrow night.

It's noon Friday and I'm about to leave to drive over to Rush (or will as soon as Gretchen gets here). I've loaded what wood I had in my yard, but it is old and not high quality. If anyone coming over has room to throw in a few sticks of wood, they will be appreciated either tonight or in the morning. See you at Rush or on the river. Dress warm for the next 2 days on and off the river.

and for those who might wonder like Terry, I did find time to bake 5 dozen sugar cookies to go with the hot tea, hot chocolate and coffee, and i brought 4 thermoses.

I'm going in the wrong direction -- Pennywit's Spring north of Van Buren -- but never know if I'll have to do the big circle. You all be careful, keep warm.

Hope yo guys had a good one. Who did I see in the red truck with 2 boats up top at the Clinton walmart? Started to find ya and ask cuz not too many idio....uh... I mean folks would have been heading out on such a gorgeous afternoon. Thought I saw Richard in his subby with his boat with wheels on top. also.

That front was amazing. In a matter of minutes the wind kicked WAY up and temp fell like 10 -15 degrees. Quinton ended up with a scratchy throat so good thing we had weenied out.
You sure this is on the right channel?

Clif, that was my vehicle at Walmart in Clinton. It was great to be inside when the storm blew threw. You were missed as it was a great time. Thanks to Richard, Eric, Painter Bob and everyone else that were responsible for putting this trip together. Cold - some, wind - some, great time - always!!!

Wow, met lots of new folks and weather wasn't as bad as predicted. For the most part the heavy wind stayed up top.
Thanks for having a lower buffalo newbie along and thanks for putting up with me. Lets do it again sometime.
