how old is dave now? i would guess 70's If he has that many broken ribs, plus leg fracture and back surgery scheduled it will be months before he is mobile. I know he is one tough dude and have enjoyed many buffalo floats with him, and I Hope he recovers to float again....Pam

Dave has another fracture in his left leg just above his ankle. His right leg is the one with the broken femur, so he will not be walking for a while. Francine said he will go into a rehab facility in Tulsa after he is flown home. Hopefully, he can go home about a week after the back surgery, if nothing else goes wrong. The back surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning. She expects that he will stay at the facility until he is able to get around some on his own.

I'm 60, be 61 in November. David is closer to my age as we were both at Georgia Tech at the same time, about a year apart. But we do not bounce as well as we once did.

Not the first time that David has had to recover. Hope he heals faster than I do as I am a slow healer. Hope to see him back in an open canoe soon, even if it is with me and a trolling motor.

I know Dave is in his low 70's. He turned 70 on his last GC a couple of years ago. I remember him telling me that on the way to Bobby Bohn's funeral. The man will always be a hero of mine. He has lived more than most will ever dream. Get well soon my friend.
Thanks for the updates Catherine. Please keep them coming.

Sincerely, Terry DeMoe

Any chance of getting a mailing address where we could send a card to Dave? Old fashioned, I know, but there's something about a physical card that electronic postings just can't touch.

Dave is still in no shape to take calls. Hopefully he is in surgery right now. But cards would be great.

Dave,

Will be hoping and praying for your complete and speedy recovery.

You were my instructor (let's just say a few moons ago :D ) in my first kayak class (got my first roll in that class!).

I like so many others have been blessed by your passion for whitewater and all things paddling.

Can't wait to see you back in your boat!

Jeff

Dave's back surgery has been postponed. Michelle (daughter) had to go home, but Francine's sister is on her way to Flagstaff.

Just curious who was on the trip with Dave? I've been out of the loop for a while and don't know the details. Any idea when the trip was supposed to be completed.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Mr. Dave!!!

Dave's back surgery went well. He is in recovery and should be back in his room sometime tonight. Doctors have ordered more x-rays of his right leg to determine treatment for it. Francine sounded very relieved and more hopeful. Said the next couple of days would be rough painwise, but thinks that rehab will start tomorrow and will help.
