Better late than never to add to this excellent & well-balanced thread. I finally got to see this documentary recently (thanks to Netflix). Seems to me the train has left the station with regard to fracking I just hope it is/will be done as safely & environmentally sound as possible. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle between the propaganda of Gasland (and the like) & the public statements of the energy companies. I'm all for transparency and reasonable regulation of it.
All I know is if we (the US) don't have a multi-pronged approach to reduce our dependence on foreign oil we're toast as a nation. The only real actionable plan I've seen is the Pickens plan:

Careful Buddy - the ex-communication is along the lines of the Festrunk Bros. divorce proceedings - "I brek with thee, I brek with thee..."
Better zip your booties all the way up - could get funky.

This show documents a real american tragedy, a real lack of a governing body or someone to regulate these fraction pits, and of course Mr.G.W.Bush to sign in the largest unregulated drilling on public lands ever, its absolutely disgusting

But "not in my backyard (NIMBY)" and hammering folks that literally work sunrise to sunup for industry to do for themselves and their families is pretty lame.
Just saying that until a person has put their money where their mouth is, trying to shift blame and environmental consequence to someone else, somewhere else is beyond disingenous.
We are indeed.. Natural gas is a major element in the production of Polyethylene.. I know some of us have a little bit of extra HDPE laying around in our garages
We need to keep pressure on these companies to find eco-friendly solutions for feedstocks/fuels in the future.. Lord knows they have the resources to do some hard research.
