Hmmm. I did see one on top of a car in Fayetteville yesterday, but it was at an intersection, I was in my car, and I didn't remember this thread. If that was the one, I bet people will see it on the rivers this summer!

I would like to think a "paddler" would not get his equipment this way. If you have photos post on Craigs List with the notice that it was taken, also Classifieds With A Click. It will get folks attention.

Hope you find it.

I suspect that it would likely either show up at a pawn shop, purchased unawares, or that some paddler might buy it in or out of the area unaware that it was stolen. I know that I always require a bill of sale with ID when I buy a used canoe, but doubt that most people think of that. IMHO, overadvertising might drive it further underground or further out of the area. Or cause the thief to deface the boat in hopes of making it unrecognizable. My canoe was stolen here in Southwest Tennessee five years ago and hasn't surfaced yet. But it was an old FG beater that is likely sitting in someone's shed or on a farm pond.

It also occurs to me that thefts of canoes and kayaks are quite frequent around the state. I suggest that a sticky post be placed at the top of the forums collating the known boats stolen so that they are easier to find than searching back through all of the forums? I hates me some boat thieves having been a victim myself. I would love to see some positive news of recoveries and possible prosecutions.

Another bump. Please keep your eyes peeled on the road, the water and in the newspaper and online ads for this GREEN ARKOTA. And I repeat my request for a sticky alert on all stolen canoes and kayaks in one thread.

I once made myself a one-page summary of the then-known stolen boats, trying to extract key info like model, color, distinguishing marks, so I could do a better job of keeping an eye out. It was a word document, so I was able to add photos for those boats where that helped, like kayaks where the swirls are often almost like a fingerprint. If you or someone else has the time to do that again, and post it in the "lost and found" forum, I'd be happy to make sure that it gets stickied, and keep it stickied as long as it is kept reasonably up to date.

I'm actually a bit more hopeful about this Arkota, now that I know only three are in circulation. There's not a lot someone can do if a "green old town discovery" is stolen; we would all be harassing or creeping out dozens of innocent boat owners at put-ins around the state. But 3 - yes, there is a chance we can ID the bad guy on this one!
