Re: Scouted: Rio Vista river park. San Marcos, TX
If it makes you feel any better, I just started riding the big wave this year. After the Grand Canyon, it didn't look quite so big anymore! lol I had planned to finally run a section of the river to check out some of the rapids downstream, but my friend (Ash) wasn't quite up to it yet. There's a small must catch eddy at the entrance of Cotton Seed Rapid to scout or portage it. Anyway, I love going out there this time of the year. It's just cool enough to scare off the tubers!tomOzarkVideo wrote:Worth the short eight-hour trip (from Springdale) for sure.Owl wrote:So how was T'giving at Rio Vista?
Is it worth a trip down there from AR? If so, I may have to check it out around Xmax.
My only problem, I am not experienced enough to ride a wave that size... The scenery, elephant ears, Cypress and cedar trees. An amazing winter getaway indeed.
p.s. The size thing is all mental. You do everything exactly the same.

It's mostly lack of wave access and never having surfed such a narrow wave.
In my creek boat, you could have both bow and stern in eddys on both sides of the feature if sideways.
I can "hang" in a hole because I play in them often.
No worries though. The fact that I have so much to learn excites rather than discourages me.
I hope to paddle with you again soon, Roman!

Yeah definitely...it was fun hanging with y'all out east! That wave will definitely surf a long boat too. I forgot that I brought my XP10 out there to try it out before the Canyon. People were pretty surprised by how well it surfed. I had to lift an edge to get the bow off the bottom more than once though. lol

Grasshopper will get better and enjoy the ride along the way.
