From what I got from his daughter, Dave was riding in the front of a raft that hit a wall. I think he was thrown against the frame.

Dave,

Best Wishes from Marlo and me as well! I've enjoyed visiting with you at some of the past Rendezvous, but much more enjoyed your sharing so much great floating information over the years through conversations on the message board that were always timely and to the point, and always appreciated the advanced weather observations from Jenks, Ok :D Rest Easy!

Best Regards

Jim

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to Dave, but I'm thankful he's going to be okay. I still haven't had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but he's such a gentleman and has helped me A LOT with rigging, etc. and has just been a lot of fun to talk to on the board. Get better Dave!
You come too.

I am proud that I have been able to call Dave my friend or many years now. One of the best ambassadors to the sport dearest to my heart that I have ever known. Thoughts and prayers to you Francine and the rest of your family bro! Get well soon.

Please keep all of the rest of his companions that are still down in the canyon your thoughts and prayers as well. I know they are all hurting pretty bad right now.

Hey Dave, In the 25 yrs. or I've know you. You have been a tremendous boater, an instructor / paddling Guru, and one of the crown jewels, of our club, but I see that ear to ear grin, on your face everytime. I've ever seen you at the river. That smile always makes me feel better. I hope, to see it again soon.

Dave, you have a bunch of friends pulling for you. We are all wishing for a quick recovery.

It seems like I read here or on Facebook that Dave may have been thrown against a wall of the Grand Canyon. Based on the extent of injuries, now I want to go to the Grand Canyon so I can see the Dave-shaped imprint on that canyon wall! Cool! :D

I took a "Paddling on the Edge" class with Dave that was offered years ago at either Surf n Turf or Rendezvous at Rockport. As it turns out, I really wan't skilled enough to take the class, but I actually still learned A LOT just from listening and the materials Dave had provided (even though it was a bit longer before I was able to really implement the lessons in my kayak).

Dave you are such a great teacher and have given so much to our community! We are all hoping for a speedy recovery for you, and plenty of pain meds for you in the meantime!

No doubt you'll be keeping many more paddlers rapt with this tale around many campfires to come!

Naw, the Dave I know will appreciate that one even after the Grey Ghost is off the drugs.

And Heather, yeah, the GC is a trip that should be on your bucket list regardless of your boat. Thanks for a bit of humor here.

Get well, Dave. Got some pepper sauce for you!!

Horn is one of the more intimidating rapids one the Canyon to my memory. Rafts have to pick their line carefully and even then it can be a luck- of-the-draw deal. Dave did the Canyon with us a years back and saw one of our oarsmen get tossed from his rig there as he struck the wall.
