Lupe, I just use a regular wood bit to drill holes in my boats, and have never had a failure, as long as I get the right size bit. dale

What's another hole?? There's already a big one in the top of the boat anyway...

Heather, if the whole saw blade and drill just stops or bogs down, and nothing but motor hum is heard, then sounds like you may be a little speed timid, and it just needs reving up going in. If there's a clicking sound, then the drill's slip chuck clutch (if equipped) needs moving up on the setting or locked in, but I doubt that since you are experienced with the drill. If part of the drill is still running, then like Jim said, something in your hole saw thingy is loose or improperly set up. Besides the soldering irons, I've got typical hole saw blades in different sizes here too.

I'm happy to report...
Hole Saw SUCCESS!
I got up this morning, put on my "Just Do It" Nike t-shirt, and applied all the great suggestions you folks gave me. After drilling out a hole in a 1/2 inch board, I felt confident I could tackle that canoe.
It really did come down to speed. The guide bit was really digging into the canoe, and so at high speed it was pulling the drill (and the hole saw) to the canoe super fast. I would let up on speed to slow down approach, but I needed that speed to engage the hole saw. I took the guide bit out and cleaned out that guide hole with just the pilot bit so I could control the speed of approach, and then I was able to keep the drill at high speed while slowly engaging the hole saw. Problem solved.
I got my thru hull fittings and hoses installed, and now it's ready to go! I'm taking it down to Rockport this afternoon to see my dual pumps in action!
Thank you so much for friends who replied...friends I know, and some friends I don't know. I love this community and helpful everyone is! THANKS!
