I am looking for Canoeing buddy
Re: I am looking for Canoeing buddy
The whole river is nice, but I'd probably put in at Calico Rock. You could camp at Boswell Shoals (about as primitive as it gets without camping on a gravel bar) then take out at the Sylamore the next day. Angler's Resort will shuttle your vehicle for a very reasonable fee. You'll have a little company, but nothing like the Little Red.
You come too.

thanks Duece, your info is much appreciated.

Happy I could help. Looks like you're about five hours away from the White. That's not too bad.
You come too.

Be aware that prevailing south winds can be daunting between Calico Rock and Allison.
Norfork to Red's Landing is also nice. Red's Landing has flush toilets and showers. If you are there midweek you will probably have it to yourself.
Attached is a spreadsheet displaying river miles. Green is access points. Click on the Orange cells for links to the web.
Boswell Shoals campground (Optimus Access) is primitive meaning no facilities of any kind.
The spreadsheet is a work in progess. I had forgotten about it. There are several things I will be adding at some point in time if I remember to do it.

The Mulberry will be a nice place to hike this weekend, but we are looking at transporting WW School students to nearby rivers for paddling.

Vortex- If you're in mississippi, then you should strongly consider driving in the OTHER direction- Alabama has some absolutely fantastic whitewater with great scenery. Arkansas is fun and a cool destination, but 'bama is way closer to you and would provide exactly, if not more, of what you're looking for.
That being said, I'm a bit partial to whitewater, and don't know too much about class I-II rivers that provide overnight camping in alabama (or just about anywhere for that matter). There may not be that many, but it's sure worth a look through the american whitewater database (http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... /state/AL/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
If you do decide to come up to AR, then you won't be let down anyhow.
