Lots of really good coolers out there, if you need more days of cold food and drink. Even the cheap ones work for a few days.

Just based on my looking around the various home pages, Yeti and Engel seem to be a bit ahead of the rest of the pack.

This may change over time.

Meanwhile, due to that shop foreman, I am am a big fan of Yeti. Their products give long quality service and the company will help you repair them if something breaks.

Come to think of it, that is what Quality USA manufacturing used to be and can be applied to most anything.

What he said, and honestly, my primary motivation for finally biting the bullet and getting the Yeti was my need to have something that can take what I dish out year after year. The cheaper coolers can cool better with a little southern engineering, but they can't be made tougher by anyone but the manufacturer. I'm just hard on stuff. There I said it. I need something the kids can sit/stand/jump on at the lake and I can sit/stand/jump on year round. Now, my daughter wants a purple canoe. If I could just find a purple Arkota.

FYI>>If you really want to get her a purple canoe I would look quick. I know Buffalo has made some purple ones in the past. The company that makes Royalex is really getting tight on color choices and charging more for any nonstandard colors. Purple, yellow etc will be more expensive for people very soon.

I picked up a 45. They are all the standard msrp. I'm going to try to get a big boy next payday. The 45 is as large as will fit crossways in a canoe. It was good to be able to buy local.

I have used a yeti one twenty something raft cooler for years and it has been outstanding on raft trips. I glue one inch foam on all my cooler tops and put a 1/2 inch strip of foam on the inside top of the contents. Yeti has been my cooler of choice over the years and I have wasted money on a lot of coolers looking for that cold beer on day 7 take out of float trips out west.

I have a smaller 65 qt Canyon Cooler I foamed up and use in my pickup camper shell and it has been ok. Not jumping up and down ice retention but ok.

My totally unscientific comparison so far is Yeti's are better than Canyons based on my observations.

Again, based on a test a bud of mine did a couple weeks ago, Engels may well be the best ice keeper available that I personally have seen over the years I been wasting money on coolers.

We used grocery store ice (the pellet stuff) on Sunday to cool some food down in Show Low Arizona. Did the put in rig stuff and put some beer in a small Engle cooler maybe a 50 qt size with the grocery store pellet ice - no foam inside the cooler or on top, cooler right out of the box. Put the cooler in the back of a pickup truck with one of those fiberglass truck bed lids (not a camper shell) and parked the truck in open Arizona sun. Next Friday afternoon we opened the lid and cooler and had ice cold beer.

I was astonished. My next cooler will be a Engel!!!!
