I'm older and wiser now but when I was her age...well, there but for the grace of God.
No question. We've all been there. I was just surprised by that nugget since it was (if I understand right) a school event of some kind.
Glad to hear there are some encouraging signs.

Jonny-A friend of mine used a web site Caring Bridge .com The family can post daily and friends can reply and it becomes a journal dedicated to the patient. Perhaps you could suggest it as it saves everyone a lot of time, confusion etc. One post in one place.( I don't know how much it costs). If this is not an option-I hope you can keep us updated. Thanks-ann d --- PS to Cowper-the high school boys pulled her out with much difficulty(current, pinned canoe etc.)Due to Tom's Wilderness class I always carry a well stocked kit. The nurses used all the gauze pads I had (about 14) to keep swabbing her mouth-they pounded her back as in a choking victim, they used cold water to shock her (just a bit-the first time I poured too much and the nurse said not so much we don't want to Throw her into shock-just keep her with us. when the EMT said we need to move her to flat ground(her legs were down and blue) I knew how to get 8 guys arranged and ready to lift--Thanks to Tom's class-I learned a lot in his class-Jim Krueger had the canoe ready for transport also. But we were lucky professional medics were so close. I don't know who arranged the human chain but it was a site to see! ACA people are great!

I'm sure ACA people are great too but I meant ACC-there were a lot of them who helped in one way or another.

In the second photograph, the root ball&log that was catching many folks is visible. This rapid is a '90 degrees left, then right', and most years is free of wood presenting usually only an inconvenience of rubbing along the outer bank for anyone overshooting it. I'm pretty sure the log here has been cut up and removed now, thanks to one of the area outfitters and several other concerned folks who live in the area. Thank you all for your work, over the whole afternoon!
Best Regards
Jim

Adam,
Best I can tell from Google Earth, the location is 342119.70N
933511.13W. This rapid is almost exactly half way between Hwy 240 (The Narrows) and Hwy 70 at Glenwood. Over thirty five years floating the Upper Caddo, I've
given names to almost every rapid, and many of the pools or eddys.
I've never named this rapid but have stopped there many times in years past to eat my chicken leg for lunch. I've lost count of the number of canoes I've seen smack the bank on the outside of the curve while I was eating, usually all in good fun :)

Thanks for that link. I was just about to ask if anyone had any more info on her current condition.
It's nice to know a little more about her as a person; I just wish her condition was better, and hope she turns a corner on that...
