Shuttle to N Maumee is more practical than going to South, shorter drive & put in is more accessible

UPDATE #2 THUR MARCH 31
Water Levels and Weather are going to be ideal for this weekend. Water is cold so don't plan to swim unless you have Polar Bear DNA.
Day floaters will paddle from North Maumee to Hwy 14. If Ken Smith is in camp at South Maumee we may stop and visit with him for a while. Ken is the last surviving key player in the Battle for the Buffalo. His book "Buffalo River Country" was a key element to making the Buffalo National River become a reality. He is busily working to extend the Buffalo River Trail from South Maumee to Hwy 65.
A beaver dam is located at the mouth of Spring Creek. Floods normal keep beaver dams from forming so this is a rare sight.

UPDATE # 3
Here is the plan. For those wanting to camp on Friday night, you may camp at Rush, Buffalo Point, Spring Creek or South Maumee. I will be at So Maumee because I have my camping gear already set up there.
Saturday:
Meet at the Hwy 14 bridge at 10am Saturday morning. We will consolidate and leave as many vehicles at Hwy 14 as possible. Boats and paddlers will then proceed to the North Maumee put in. On the water we will make stops at So Maumee, Spring Creek, Jack Pot Bluff and Water Creek. Those of us camping will do so at Kimball Bluff. Day trippers will then continue on to Hwy 14. This is a trip of 9.9 miles.
Overnighters will paddle 8.3 miles on Saturday and the remaining 1.6 miles on Sunday.
As always, be flexible and be prepared to help shuttle.

I will bring my canoe trailer with maybe 2 canoes/4 people and can carry as many as 6 canoes total up to N.Maumee. I/we will be day tripping.

Mary has elected NOT to christen her Genesis this weekend as she wants to practice some with it on the lake first.

See you at the bridge.

Who's camping at Rush? That's where I'm headed tomorrow afternoon with my just-bought-yesterday bright yeller Remix XP10. I like the red one so much I decided to get another one. Dark blue Jeep Cherokee is my yak hauler.

The river may rise slightly but I don't think it will be sufficient to wash out the beaver dam at Spring Creek.
We should have a very good water level.
River may not be as clear as I like. We need a good flood to clean it out.

Saturday, 10am at Hwy 14 bridge to load boats and begin shuttle to North Maumee.

UPDATE # 4 Windy on Sunday.
For those who will be camping Saturday night. Plan for wind. It will be increasingly windy as the day goes on thru Sunday afternoon.

Gary and I are considering going. So meet by 0930 at Hwy 14 bridge? We would have to leave pretty early to make it. Will call Cliff since I have his # if we are coming for sure.

Mary's folks from work backed out, so it will be just she and me and Chloe, the paddleing addicted dog coming. Mary has re-decided to take the Genesis solo canoe on it's maiden voyage tomorrow so we will have 2 red canoes on the trailer behind the dark grey Nissan Pathfinder with saddle racks up top. See y'all in the morning.

Didn't know you had had a Genesis. make sure you tell Mary tomorrow. Maybe you and Roger can give her some pointers. It will be her first day solo.

Genesis has new vinyl gunnels, thwarts, seat, and end plates. Coated the bolt heads with silicone today, have nearly new float bags for it. 19 year old hull in pretty good shape. No skid plates yet, but have all the materials to add them after she paddles it and sees how she likes it. Will put them on regardless, but rigged it for her as a river runner, with seat and straps and old saddle. Made the cap plates out of commercial cutting boards.

  What a great day on the water! I don't have a full report, but 15 of us floated from whichever Maumee is close to Morning Star to the Hwy 14 bridge @ Dillard's Ferry. It was a beautiful day. I think Richard will be posting some awesome pictures of a beaver at the dam at Spring Creek.

Great company, beautiful weather, good water . . . we had it all today.

(Weather permitting, I plan to do the same float April 15, 16, 17 if anyone is interested in joining me and a few others.)
