Thanks guys for making me feel welcome and showing me the lines. I had a great time. The water and air where warm and it was a great way to do my first piney run.

If any of you where thinking of going and didn't sorry, it was great.

Dan

Richland, Yes. Surfing Rapid, No.

I resent that Moatsie!

You know that was a 30-45 second battle at surfing rapid! Although I was thoroughly "worked" by the hole, I was able to endure the barrage and emerge from the engagement still fully intact to my boat.

I would hardly say the rapid "Ate My Lunch." However, it was clear the ledge was hungry for a Pyrahna Ammo that night. I teased her with a taste, but left her wanting for a meal 8)

AWESOME Night! Those who wanted to go but did not, truly missed out on an Amazing experience...

Is there a report on this trip?

Here is a trip report from my perspective.

I called Anthony Saturday afternoon and say I want in to the trip. He says sure come on down. He asks if I have done the Piney before and I tell him no. Suddenly he sounds less sure, but I tell him to not worry about me I will be fine.

I drive down and wait at long pool for everyone to arrive. Scott arrives first and we talk for a while. ( I don’t know any of these guys yet)
Jed, Anthony, John and Gober (sp?) arrive in Jeds truck. Introductions are made and jeds truck is stuffed with boats and people for the ride to heltons.

At Heltons we tape chem lights to everything with the award for the most creative setup going to Jed. We finish gearing up and are off.
Since I had not done this river when we got to a rapid I would ask whoever was the closest what the line was and just run it based on that. It worked really well, and on the occasion I would come on an unexpected boulder I would just boof it. It was easy to see the other lines the other guys where running based on the chem lights.
The trip was reletively carnage free, and miles where dispatched with efficiency.

As to johns encounter with Surfing rapid, he got into the foamy middle and battled for a little while. He ended up flipping a couple of times and did a really good job of coming out in one piece. My favorite quote is when he said “ I was bracing off the bottom with my head.”

I felt like I was using more of my boat and feeling the edges more than during the day. I think you are relying less on visual cues and more on what your body is telling you to navigate.

The back roads where absolutely full of people that night, we weren’t the only ones enjoying the full moon.

After the float we had a little fire and everyone loaded up for the ride home. Since I was still a little wired I drove about an hour north before unrolling my bag and sleeping next to the truck. Woke up about 9:00 the next morning and drove the rest of the way home.

I enjoyed meeting all of the guys and hope to see them again.

Dan
