The problem is, not so many years ago, few went into the outdoors to hike, bike, float etc. I can remember back in North Georgia or even here in Arkansas / Oklahoma when we would go hiking or floating and never see another group.

Back in those days, there was time for the woodlands to recover from the occassional cat hole dump site. That was the recommended proper disposal of poop.

These days you see a lot of folks out enjoying the "woods" and or "gravel bars".

Fecal matter just does not have time or proper conditions to decompose, it just builds up.

The top soil layer is not that thick here in Arkansas or surrounding states and when you head west, it is super dry soil and fecal matter might dry out but it remains for decades.

I would not at all be surprised for more rules RE: carry out for proper disposal every thing including poop. This for sure out west for hikers, bike riders and rock climbers. El Capitain multi day climbers out in CA, used to just let fly down the cliff face or dump into a paper sack and let that drop to the bottom. Did not take long before the accumulation was pretty bad. The Pett bag system might be just the ticket for hikers, bike riders, etc etc

I remember well back in the mid 80's when a bunch of us were enjoying the back canyons of lake powell from a bud's cabin cruiser. We anchored next to a rocky cliff. It was dark by the time we got dinner completed. Most of the guys were sleeping around the deck. I choose to climb up a little trail to a flat spot maybe a couple hundred feet up. Bright moon and I noticed a few crunchies on the ground, just kicked them aside, made space for my pad and laid down for a good night's sleep. Woke up in the morning to see the entire area covered with toilet paper and dried out poop. Evidently this was the place to go take a dump if you were cruising the area. Think about it. I thought I was way back in the wilderness but in fact this was a well used area of the back country in Lake Powell.

Funny!

I have the same feeling when I step in some hikers business!

Probably why Phillips keeps jacking the price up!
