Cadron Creek: River Wide Strainer
Re: Cadron Creek: River Wide Strainer
My Cabin is on the bluff in that area. In the winter you can see it from the Cadron. It's the one overlooking the waterfall and it's up on tall pillars. We call it the "Treehouse".
This flushing may have deposited some new hazards along the creek.

J Shurgar, you really have a beautiful slice of heaven right there. I paddled the cadron the other day and just had to jump out and take some pictures of that waterfall of yours.
The owner's of the Barking Dog House are some of the nicest people ever. They've helped many weary and worn floaters who are unfamiliar with the cadron. Once or twice a year a group will capsize nearby and follow the sounds of dogs through the black of night towards a warm furnace and hot cups of cocoa. Unfortunately the wonderful family's name escapes me at the moment.
As far as floating the Cadron above flood levels I agree with lupe that it is probably very dangerous. However I wouldn't say it's not fun. I personally won't kayak the cadron unless it's in flood. But whatever floats your boat. I would not advocate this to anyone. I was able to kayak this last week at 9ft. I kept thinking this is fun, but jokingly asking for another 5ft. Well, we got the rain, and I went the next day at 14ft. It probably raised up to 16 by the time I got off. I would have went again in the evening at 18ft, but without a partner I'm not even that crazy. At 15ft+ it really gets up into fields and trees. You lose most all rock made eddies and to slow down you're really relying on large trees or clusters of smaller ones to jump behind. These are not always an option, and you must be very familiar with the creek to know where the actual creek bed is. There are huge logs moving very fast, so it's necessary to take it slow and scout as much as possible. When it's clear and you know where the creek bed is, then jump in and ride some wave trains.... The hwy 65 bridge run can be done from CCO in under 25 minutes.
I've also been informed of a strainer 2 miles down from Harckwick Bridge (graffiti Bridge)

Cadron Kid,
I'm glad you enjoyed the waterfall. It has been spectacular at times this year. If the water keeps up we should have some truely beautiful icefalls this winter.
The kind people are the Garrets. They are the last downstream house in the settlement.
I hope you have enjoyed the high water this year it has been abundent.
