We too recently lost our cat, Sophie. She was our youngest son's cat he got when he was around 8 years old. She was about 14 years old. He got married and took her to live with him away from the house she was use to. She got sick and lost weight, the vet gave her steroid shots and she would perk up, did this twice. Then one day Jeff came home (this was about 3 months ago) and found she had died and next to her was his German sheppard lying next to her like he was being there for her in her last hour. He buried her in our back yard where she had lived for the last 8 years of her life.

Diane and John-

So sorry to hear of your loss. It is so difficult to have to make that type of decision. I had to put my 20-year old cat down in January. I didn't realize how difficult it would be and I still miss her. Josie was a beautiful dog and she had such wonderful, caring owners. She had a great life! And, you will always have the great memories of her to cherish.

...
From too much love of living,
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be
That no life lives for ever;
That dead men rise up never;
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to sea.

Diane and I want to thank everyone for their kind posts. Losing a beloved pet is something you take on the day that you bring them home or they show up at your door. Josie was very much Diane's dog but became a part of my life as well. Our little family is smaller now but when the right pup comes along, we'll go for it again. We've been blessed with two very special dogs and we'll have the adventure of seeing what little stray comes our way next. Our luck has been pretty good, so far. Thanks again
