I don't know if the regs have changed,
but a few years back the insurance company said 4.0 was too high to have class.
All classes were deferred to Shores Lake.
Flat water classes.
4.1 would be bad.
Everyone put on your good juju beads and hold your breath.

Not sure if the Insurance company can be blamed but 4.0 seems to be the general consensus cuttoff for classes. (that said the Vancamps will make the final call!!!) The river might be a walk in the park at this level for even intermediate paddlers but for beginners and novices it can be terrifying. For instructors trying to teach basic boat control it can be really tough. We have some pretty creative instructors who can make lemonade out of lemons if the river gets too high. I'm not skairt.

There sure is a lot of talk about the possibility of "too much water" when, as far as I can tell, the Mulberry is holding around 2 feet with the most significant rain chances past.

Mulberry at over 4 feet is getting really pushy on some sections, and it's an issue of student safety. I don't think it's that the insurance dictates any specific level though. That's just been something ACC has come up with in the past as a good cutoff point. And I agree with it too - on some sections. Redding to Turners is an example of a short section that poses probably less threat as the level gets higher (up to a point). No real hazards on that section and almost no rapids when it's above 4.0. Sac is the only big one, and it's more easily navigable at 4 than at 2 or 3. An intermediate level class would be good to go on that stretch up to 5 feet or so I bet.

Anyway, best rain chances are still not behind us. Wed is the best, and there is a chance every through next Monday. That will no doubt change (the only constant about our weather here is that is changes), but it is unpredictable... One thing for sure is that we won't have to put up with levels that are too low! :-)

I have refused to look at any more weather forecasts on the TV. It causes me to lose that zen-like state and start hyperventilating again. I've been rather lightheaded the last couple of days, now that I think of it. Oh, Well!!!!

Well sounds like time to initiate some Super high intensity training! ( mull that one over ) And if Fish is down to fight, then I am too! Damn aliens...I'll bring mah Boomstick!
