Hey Ben,
After moving here, decided to get involved with this group and it's wonderful. Moving in from Virginia - the NW Chapter takes care of its members and it's a blast paddling with them! Last time I went out with some advanced paddlers and ; wow, I was side surfing, invited to enter the river from a 5+foot bluff (which I failed to do at that time) and then we met up with more paddlers  . Does your wife paddle? any children? we even have younguns paddling.......... We need to help preserve this state also; so be prepared to come on out and help us with cleanups also! Take care and see you next year - 2009!

Hey Ben,

You should also consider joining the Ozark Society. They have lots of events in Arkansas, plus they take a trip to Colorado (near Buena Vista) each summer.

Your lucky to be moving to a place with so many great people. Every time I go up there, it gets harder to leave. As soon as my company gets an opening, I'll be transferring back up there.

Welcome to Arkansas Ben.

Everyone has already told you about the inconsistency of water here..but all summer long we have rockport a bit further south from where you'll be..and it runs on schedule throughout the summer for park and play. We also have Dierks which released alot more this year than in the past...big holes..bigger fun! And now even newer is the Wister wave..which they are still ironing out the details on releases...but we have had quite a few paddlers who got to visit ( its in southern OK ) and have had a blast there. Hope this brightens your outlook even more. Ask Fish about boatball too. That's in your area.
Take it easy,

yo ben. i couldn't let everyone get in on the commision check the state of arkansas cuts for selling us to out of towners without my pitch, so here goes.

colorado is one of my favorite states, although i have to say that i'd still choose a good ozark creeking day with a few of our fellow homies over any other place I can think of. I'm a little biased, but I still don't think you'll regret being in Arkansas.

The Ozarks and Ouachitas offer a lifetime of nooks, crannies, caves, creeks, peaks, wildlife, fishing, kayaking (creeking and playing) and gettin' down hillybilly style in a holler. We also do it in a more lush environment with less ruggedness and remoteness relative to the Rockies. Add less ruggedness and an often more intimate feeling, and you can't beat the ozarks for several days after a good rain.

You can't schedule our whitewater on your calendar, but you can sure get plenty if you live around here and have any flexibility workwise throughout the year.

Pretty soon, you'll be rockin' a worn out set a 'ralls, corncob pipe in mouth. Smilin' a big gap toothed Ozark smile! (The chewing tobacco that goes with the lifestyle is hell on dental work!)

And my final point, our mountains may be worn and short, but they're older and smarter too!

peace, cya when it rains.
Bryan

Hey guys I just read through all of your posts... You sound like an excellent group of people. In the end that is one of the best parts of our sport anyway right? Looking forward to making it out there.

I haven't kept up with the numbers, but fifteen plus years ago the ACC was listed as having the second largest membership of any of the participating ACA clubs listed in their publication.

At least I'm not the only one leaving Colorado, Ben. I'm moving to Carrollton, TX (actually already down here now) on the 29th of Oct. Texas, like Arkyland and Oklahoma has more whitewater than is generally known.

I think you may have met or saw my son, Henry at FibArk, Teva or the Riverfest in Buena Vista. He's the little (butthead), almost 8 yr old (thinks he's 25) paddler from Denver. He's worked quite a bit with Cutch and Nick.

Anyhow, I digress. You'll love the creeking in Arkansas, it will open your eyes for sure and the water is generally warmer that Colorado's rivers and creeks.

Tomcat???? You actually still paddle or do you just talk about it?
I don't want to hear any trash talk, just ping when it's up and I'll see you there. Henry says he'll school the both of us.

hyde.....you must be crazy to be moving back to Texas from Colorado twice in one life-time. Ben must be way smater than you since he at least is moving to arkyland. He also must be better looking than you (only up from the bottom...yano).

Tell Henry that he and I will be ready to throw you a rope when you swim the Falls.....again. :poke:

Where is Carrollton, Tx?

you will drive alot in search of good water most of the time unless we get a good two to three inches of rain then quite a few things will come up. I say check out the wister wave right over the border of oklahoma. great big wave! check it out on youtube. type in jackatspa and click search. glad you made it to the ozarks ben. look forward to paddling with you.

thanks, jack h
