OZARK SOCIETY BUFFALO RIVER TRIP - JUNE 1-5
OZARK SOCIETY BUFFALO RIVER TRIP - JUNE 1-5
OZARK SOCIETY
2010 BUFFALO RIVER FLOAT
June 1 - 5
The Ozark Society Summer Float on the Buffalo River will leave from Tyler Bend (probably), at noon, on June 1. We will have lunch, then start down the river. The trip will end on Saturday afternoon, June 5 at Shipp’s Ferry on the White River
There will be a john boat to carry community gear for each 20 - 24 person group, however you should leave room in your canoe for one community ice chest. This is a strenuous trip. If you are not in good enough physical condition to assist with all the chores such as lifting, carrying, cooking, clean-up, setting up and breaking camp, this may not be the trip for you. Each person will be responsible for their own canoe and camping gear. If you need a canoe, they will be available from our outfitter.
Would you be interested in operating one of the john boats?
The person who does that, comes at no charge. If they furnish the motor, we will pay them $150. Our preference is for the driver to furnish the motor. If you are interested, or know someone who is interested, please let me know. If we don't find enough boat drivers from our group, we will hire drivers from our outfitter.
We plan to limit the group to 60 people, and no pets (please)! The trip fee for members will be $150 for adults and $125 for children under 18. You must be a member of the Ozark Society and will be required to sign a release form in order to participate in the trip. If you are not currently a member, the family or individual membership is $15 per year. The fee will include food, a shuttle from Tyler Bend to Shipp’s Ferry, john boat expense, ice, etc.
You can secure a spot by sending a check for $50 (Balance by May 1st) to:

Rats! We JUST signed up for WW canoe school at Nantahala Outdoor Center for that very week! Had hoped this would fall later in June but alas, I know you gotta go when water levels are more reliable.

Cliff, this would be a great trip for you and the boy to go on. We had 18 go last year, and this will be the 14th yr I will have done this trip. Great food, good times and not a finer group of people to go with. We missed you last year Richard, so keep those nasty ticks off you!!!!Pam

Re: OZARK SOCIETY BUFFALO RIVER TRIP - JUNE 1-5
I can't say for sure if I'll make it, but I've done this trip many times before, and even captained a john boat downstream in 07. Sadly, I don't have an outboard anymore, so if I pilot a boat, it will have to be with an outfitter's motor. I won't have any paid vacation time by then, and that's the busy time of year to be an auto tech, so it's not looking too optimistic at this time. That doesn't mean I don't want to go, nothing could be farther from the truth. For those of you who haven't experienced a long trip like this before, it's an absolutely stunning opportunity, on one of the most beautiful rivers in the country. I really recommend going, if you can get away. The people are awesome, the scenery is awesome, and (last but not least) the cooking is awesome.
I'd really like to see a larger group this year, it seems like attendance has kinda dropped the last few years, and I'd also like to see more children go. Seems like the first year I did this trip, there were probably a dozen kids, and the last year I did this trip, there might have been 2 kids.
My $.02

Re: OZARK SOCIETY BUFFALO RIVER TRIP - JUNE 1-5
What this means is, Somebody needs to setup the monster shuttle and do Gilbert to Maumee with us
and the Rush to the end section. These are my last sections to claim the river below Ponca.
Then we start on the same for Quinton and Daniel!!

Re: OZARK SOCIETY BUFFALO RIVER TRIP - JUNE 1-5
Yes it would. I have this trip now for 13 yrs and I have a 17ft canoe which I sometimes paddle solo. I can carry some on your gear for you in my canoe if you want to go in a kayak. there have been several who hav used kayaks. Of if you want to consider being my bow person, I have a spot for you in my caneo....Pam

Clif, my clan would probably be up for that. Hannah may or may not be with us though. We got custody and now the majority of the summer she is with her mom. Been wanting to do both of those sections for a while now.Clif wrote:Got that notice. To do this trip we would miss 3 days of school. I was ok with one... but
