Sugar Creek Question

For those of you that are more familiar with Sugar, what are the chances it will still be at or above 6 ft tomorrow? At what level does it become not worth the trip?

not sure, never paddled it, but tentatively scheduled to be there about 10 a.m. unless my pal matt caldwell can't make it.

if he can't make it then I am looking to go to richland if it holds or tot for a day trip. gettin up early with any of those options, and they are all a decent drive.

Man, not to throw a wrench in ya'lls plans but i wouldn't make a long drive with the gages on the way down. Sugar doesn't hold for long and the gages are not on the creek. Their on surrounding creeks on different watersheds. What it come down to i don't think it will be worth the drive.

The gauge we use for Sugar (on the OWP) isn't really Sugar, but a stream nearby. So I wouldn't bet a long drive on it. If that gauge is high and if rain was widespread (checking radar estimates), then it's a more sure bet. Sugar also won't generally hold a good level for more than maybe 18 hrs. If it floods one afternoon, it'll generally be fairly minimal the next day. Of course, lots of stuff affects that estimation, so take it with a grain of salt...

The best bet with Sugar is to get visual reports from local folks before you drive there. Some of those folks hang around this message board, and if you request that they post a note and if they think there's a good chance it'll be running, you may get some feedback.

Hope that helps. If you do catch Sugar, it's fast and fun, but if it's your first time there, make sure your tree-fu is strong and know exactly where to take out before those bridges come into view!
