Central chapter meeting, Tuesday Jan 26.

Post by David Mac » Fri Jan 22, 2010 8:29 am

Come one, come all to the Oyster Bar Tuesday Januaray 26th for the ACC central chapter meeting.

Larry Crane will being giving us a "inrto to rafting" presentation for those of us who have never been on one of the big western trips and want to find a way to try it. The timing is right since several of the popular rivers with permit lottery systems are currently open for applications.

David, The timing for a "Permit" program is very appropriate... since I just got my first "Unsuccessful" for this permit season on a permit application for the Salt River in Arizona. The more of us who apply for the permits, the better our chances of at least being the BFF of someone who hits a permit. Thus, let's visit about how to apply & what's involved if you hit a permit... I had never done a western river trip when I hit the first application I ever sent in... on the Middle Fork of the Salmon, in Idaho! There is still time for folks to send in applications... and hit... and invite us along (I hope, I hope, I hope!)!! Crane

Any idea when I should expect to receive my notice regarding my permit app for the Middle Fork and Main Salmon? So far I'm batting .500.

I thought it went well... The Old Pros in the audience took pity on me and actually helped with the program... They had an oof night, and I'm thankful.
David announced that next month at the Central Chapter meeting Jeremy will do a program on Self Support Multi-Day Kayak Tripping... his recent adventure on a self-supprt kayak adventure trip through the Grand Canyon. I am particularly interested in the details of how they outfitted their LL XP10's to handle twelve days on the river!! Wow!!

After hearing Larry's presentation on how hard it is to put together a raft trip I too will be interested to hear how they managed it with kayaks.

Thanks to both Larry for last nights material and to Jeremy for stepping up with something for next month. If any one else has something they'd like to show off their knowledge of at a meeting, just let me know.

BTW, as to when folks might hear about permits (and... it's still not too late to apply for a June 20th or so permit on the Middle Fork of the Salmon or a Memorial Day launch on the Yampa!) word is that with the new on-line capabilities we may receive news (bad or good) by February 4th this year!! Yee Haw!
