I was thinking about the new year coming up and I think I am officially ready to be optimistic again about the economy and my ability to provide income for my family. The last 2 years where tough for us, we had to fire all our full time employees, me and the wife are committed to living in a house we had built to sell, and doesn't fit our needs and budget very well. I have been scraping by on a much smaller income than I am used to. ETC...
But forget that.
Most of the major stock indices posted huge gains over the last year. I think we have been in a recovery for a while now. Jobs always are the last economic indicator to increase in a recovery cycle, and there is promising news in the new jobs category. The real estate market in our local area has been stable for a while, and most of the unsold inventory has been flushed out. In the construction business, my specialty, I think we have gotten rid of most of the no talent yahoos that never belonged in the first place, and where only in it to get rich. I look around at the last men standing and for the most part they are artists and craftsmen, people with real talent, who are fair and honest.
So how do you feel about your prospects for the new year? How is your area of business?
And one more reason to be optimistic: Spring whitewater season is just around the corner!

It's always a good year as long as the rivers are flowing. Can't wait for Spring :)
