Paddling Shoes

I started with NRS Desperado's, but the sole would slide all around when walking on rocks. I picked up a pair of Teva P-2's and really like them. Unfortunately, they have a split toe, so I can't use them with my dry suit. I ordered some Teva Avator 2's and they felt fantastic. I wear a size 13 though and there just isn't enough room for them in my boat. The Teva Cherry Bomb's look like a low profile version of the Avator, but I'm not sure how'd they fit with my dry suit. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I think the sole may still be a little thick on those. The sad thing is that I'm trying to fit them in a river runner. It sucks having big feet!

I have two sizes of these. One fits me barefoot and the other fits over my drysuit and thick wool socks. These are compact wetshoes but they have rubber and a thick nylon strap over the top to add support. Mine are grippy and don't slide around on my foot. I really like them.

Oooh...that reminds me...my very first kayaking shoes were dive boots with a zipper. I couldn't get them zipped up all the way, because my legs are so big. I'm betting I'd have the same problem with those or the cherry bomb's (no zipper but reviews said they had a high ankle and were hard to get on for some people).

Has anyone tried the Keen Payette's? They looks like they have a small sole on them. There's an outfitter about an hour from me that sells Keen. It would be nice to be able to try them on...with my kayak! lol

I might try those for a summer shoe, but they definitely won't work with my dry suit. CKS recommended that I try Kokatat Seekers.

if you want to try them for summer, go with the KSOs, I wear mine all summer.. Those flows (even though it's only 1.2mm neoprene) are actually quite warm.

I wear an NRS Attack right now, and it's the best I could find these days. I've owned what I thought were better shoes in the past and I wish someone would make a really great kayak shoe again... maybe someday. I'd pay twice as much to get something that is tough, strong, but flexible and relatively low volume.

My stohlquist caveman boots are very flexible, have a very aggresive sole that covers the foot very well, and are very comfortable. They even fit in my 4fun very well. Check these out for sure. They got em at OOO

Like Fish, last year I had a pair of NRS attack shoes and liked them a lot.

First the snaps on the cross strap broke.

then the seam down the back split. took maybe one season for them to blow apart and I did not beat these shoes up.

tossed them out

now have a pair of the NRS work boot style boating shoes (the rocker and hero have plenty of space for big shoes). They are big and bulky but so far work like a charm.

I used my Kokatat Seekers for the first time yesterday. I wasn't too sure about them when I first tried them on at home. They were the same length as my NRS shoes, but cut a lot more narrow. After spending all day with them on the river, I didn't want to take them off. They were super comfortable and really stayed in place. I definitely recommend them!
