Hunter is not just my son, he is my paddling buddy.

I make a few phone calls on Friday and could'nt find anyone interested in going to the Tot. We go to the RV christmas party and I am in a room full of paddlers but nobody is going south. Hunter and I get up on Saturday morning and head to the Tot. When we get to the falls there is not a car in the parking lot, so we wait until 11:30 and decide that nobody is going to showup. We talk to some camper's that say they will shuttle us, so we head to ed banks. Some people may think I am crazy fo taking my 10 year old son down the Tot (just the 2 of us) but Hunter has had 20 plus runs on it at levels ranging from 3' to 5' and I beleive that his paddling skills are as solid as several of my paddling buddies. We had a great time on that section after some good games of follow the leader. We get to the falls and Hunter stomps the boof at eyeopener. When we get down to the machine we have a little discusion...I decide to go first. I head around the world, blow the line, and I end up going down it backwards. Hunter scrambles up on the rock with a smile

to say "What happend dad" all I could do was look back up with a smile and shrug my shoulders. He decided not to run it today because of the lack of safety and watching my line.

I was proud that he made his own decision not to run it, not because I thought he would get hurt (he probably would have cleaned it) but it sure would have been a long ride home.
Today was a good day.
