ACC Website Update

Post by Aturnip » Mon Nov 30, 2009 6:41 pm

If you haven't noticed yet, we are underway with our latest website renovations. It seems that we hit a snag today during the change-over, and the new site isn't working for some folks and the message board is down for others. We hope to have everything tied back together tomorrow.

Please note that it will not be possible for members to log in to the new ACC website until later this week (probably this weekend). The new site will be very nice and much more useful when we get it all done, so please bear with us.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. Contact Heather Huckeba or me.

Balls are safe!

The current host is doing some odd things with some DNS settings which have caused the not so seemless changeover.

Waiting on them to fix the issue and then I'll redirect the domain back to the new host.

If you wondering why some are seeing something different it's because these addresses are cached both locally and on your ISP depending on the TTL (time to live). When this cache is flushed you'll see one of the two depending on what's happening. :)

Hey - I know a bunch of folks have contacted me wanting more info...unfortunately I'm largely offline for most of this week, so please just bear with us as Graham takes care of getting our settings changed behind the scenes. Later this week or this weekend I'll be posting and sending out more information about the new site, etc...

If the new site comes online in the next day or so as expected, you'll find a FAQ page set up which will hopefully answer some questions and then I'll be back online towards the weekend to answer any other questions directly!

I probably won't be able to respond to any PM's or emails for the next several days, but I'll catch up with ya later! Stay tuned!

Thanks!

Good luck with your underway with the latest website renovations, just make it smoother for the website, you know. Just the new website is not working for some guest and the message board is down for others too. So it is really needed to have some renovations.

Hi Benice, Welcome to our Board!

I hope you don't mind, I edited the commercial link out of your post.

Tell us a little more about yourself, what kind of paddling do you like to do?

Okay - the new website is up and running. Not everyone is going to see the changes depending on whether you clear your cache or not. You may not see all the changes until you have disconnected from your internet connection and then re-connect.

We're still fine tuning a few things, so stay tuned. Post your questions here and one of us will try to get back to you asap. Please read the FAQ page on the ACC website...you may find answers to your questions there!

UPDATE:
current ACC members can now log into the ACC website (not to be confused with logging into the ACC message board, which is a separate entity). Please go http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/Defaul ... eId=490109 to read further information about logging into the new website.

Thanks again for your patience as we make this transition.

SOME NEW INFO:

In THEORY, if you are here at the ACC message board reading this, and you click the header at the top of this page, you will be taken to our new ACC website.

However, this MAY not happen for you. If you click the header at the top of this page, or if you type in http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in your browser, but you still see the blinking "Under Construction" page, then it means your browser has not updated to the new site.

You can do a few things to see the new site (one or more of these might work):
1) clear your browser history or clear your private data (slightly different steps depending on if you are using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox...not sure about other browsers).
2) disconnect from your internet connection and reconnect (note - you'll need to break the entire internet connection, not just close and reopen your browser)
3) shut down and re-boot your computer

Clearing my browser history didn't work, but disconnecting and reconnecting from the internet did...it may work differently for everyone depending on your internet provider, your system settings, etc. etc.

If you still cannot see the new ACC website after trying the above steps, then apparently due to the mysteries of how the world wide web works, then it may just take time (hours, maybe overnight, maybe a full day) in order for the new information to propogate far and wide enough that everyone is seeing the new site.

Even in doing our tests a few of us would see different pages and versions at different times, so the process really isn't as instantaneous as you would think it would be. Hopefully we'll all be "on the same page" literally and figuratively very soon!

Thanks

Hi Adam,

Sorry about that: we actually found we have a glitch with the new site and our interface with PayPal. I think we know what the issue is, but we need to get some settings changed to get it working properly (hopefully on Monday).

If you don't mind waiting, I'll shoot you a note as well as post again once we know we have resolved the PayPal issue and then you should be able to pay that way. But you can also snail mail your check if you prefer to:

Arkansas Canoe Club, PO Box 1843, Little Rock, AR 72203

Sorry for any frustration as we experience some growing pains switching to the new site. We should have the bugs worked out soon!

Thanks

Latest Update:

It's looking like there is NOT a glitch with our new website, but there IS a glitch with our PayPal account. We still don't have it fixed...maybe by this weekend.

In the meantime if you want to join or renew, you CAN pay with PayPal if you pay with funds from a bank account (but no credit cards), OR you can just select Manual payment and you'll receive an invoice via email that you can mail with your check.

I will update once we finally get PayPal processing credit cards again.

Thanks

Forum question, is anyone else having to log in on a daily basis? I've cleared everything out, check the auto log in button, but still happening. I'm on IE at work and safari at home. Same thing either place.
