Richland is not necessarily a lot harder to run at higher flows (up to a point), but it is pushier, with bigger holes, and the consequences of a swim are higher. I would not rate Richland a 4+ at 5 ft., more like pushy 3-4 water. The lines actually open up. However, I think Roger's rating for the boater applies - if it's your first time down especially, you need to be quite comfortable on class 4 water to handle Richland at 5 ft.
There will be a LOT of class 3 to 3+ available if Richland is at that level! Falling Water is a given and Hailstone and EFLB both might go. Also Hurricane Cr. in the upper Piney watershed is a good bet. IF Richland is at 5 feet on Saturday, which remains to be seen.

Re: Richland level
i think richland will peak tomorrow and be coming down by saturday. however if it peaks and what it could from the forecast she might be coming down from freakin huge!! from the most recent forecast updates it looks like saturday is gonna be purdy with some sunshine and getting cool that evening. man o man, i'm so excited!!
as far as richland goes, it's not all that hard. but it demands confidence in your strokes through slots, holes, etc.. and a really solid roll after getting smacked in the face with rocks is good if you get upside down. i think it surely requires class iv skills. (our I-VI rating system is very subjective and is honestly just not that good). and if it's big the holes and speed step way up. your first richland run should ideally be 3.5-4.5 or so if it's a step up run for you. if ur a bad a$$ though, the bigger the better!! btw, i'm not a bad a$$. but sometimes i pretend!!

No, but a couple folks have offered a ride for her. I am 99% sure she won't go.Dave Smith wrote:You thinking about taking a raft down Renee??
