Hey Guys!
Although this post is unrelated to floating I would like you to lend me your ear, or eyes as it is! Janet and I have for the past two years
lent our time to help maintain the hiking trails in the Caney Creek Wilderness Area, below Mena and bordered on one side by the Cossotot
River. This is a area that we dearly love. In recent years it has been maintained very little. We have taken it upon ourselves to clear the
trails. I am sure that many of you can relate to your first paddling experience, esp on a wild river. This is the place that I cut my teeth
so to speak in camping an backpacking. It has a special meaning to us. Any way with the Pine Bark Beatle, Red Oak Borer this wonderful
place has been in dire need of someone to look over it. Well that has fallen to the wife and I and a group of volunteers.
Some aspects of the trail. The Buckeye trail is a great Ouachita ridge trail that intersects with the Caney Creek Trail. Only thing the briars have taken it over. The Caney Creek Trail starts in the East and goes all the way to the Cossotot in the West. Brush is the main issue here and some
trees are down. Also at aprox the mid point is a 35 ft. high water fall on Katy Creek.

Thanks,
Tom
