Fall ACC BOD Meeting Oct. 24 in OKC

Post by OzarkTom » Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:51 am

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to invite all ACC members to our Fall Board of Directors meeting that is being hosted by the Red Dirt Chapter in Oklahoma City.

If you have anything you want to talk about or just want to see behind the scenes how our club works, come on out!

The meeting will begin at 10am and go till 2 or later.

Thanks to Terry Demoe and Matt Woodson for setting this up!

After the meeting, we will be going out in the Dragon Boats!

If you plan to attend, let us know by posting on this topic so we can be sure of having enough Dragon Boats to accomodate everyone.

The following link is to the location of the meeting at the Boathouse.

Cheers,

Tom

Hello fellow ACC members,

I just wanted to say we are very excited that we will be hosting the first ACC board meeting in Okc. Everyone is invited so if you can come on over. We have several people who have an extra bed or at least a couch to crash on, so if you would like a place to crash Friday or Saturday let us know and I am sure we can find a place with some friendly paddlers. :D

I am excited that we are going to get to Dragonboat (weather permiting?) with some of you guys. Dragonboating is a lot of fun, and I hope to get a friendly Okies vs Arkies race going. They have paddles and PFD's but you can bring your own PFD if you would like. After that I would like to take those who can stay for a little bit longer and show them around Bricktown (and get a bite and a beer). We are very proud of what the city has done  (and is still doing) with this area, and I hope everyone that comes at least takes a few minutes to walk around and check it out.

One more thing we had to move the meeting to the Route 66 boathouse because of time constraints at the Chesapeake boathouse. If there are any questions pease PM me email at lapaddler@msn.com or just give me a call at 405-306-5067. Thanks and I really look forward to seeing everyone.

This is Karen K. from the Red Dirt Chapter in OKC. We have space for quite a few people who need lodging while they attend the board meeting in OKC on Oct 24. We have a few extra beds and lots of space for bags/pads on comfy carpet. Please post a message here with name and email or telephone number.

Hate to have to miss a chance to visit, "The City"! For all you arkie breatherens headed that way, be sure to check out the Bass Pro store under the interstate by the boat barn. They have a ton of good deals on outdoor clothing and other goodies.

Bricktown and the OKC Memorial are definitely worth the time to visit.

What I found was 3115 East Overholser Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73127, but the Mapquest site says North Overholser Drive.

Don't know if going yet. Have to wait on Susan to get home to see if she wants to paddle instead.

Many thanks to the Red Dirt chapter for hosting this ACC board meeting. I was sorry the meeting ran overtime and that we didn't have time to try out the Dragon boats, but I thought that it was all time well spent and productive.

Always knew that Debo was VERY busy doing stuff for us that we mostly never hear about, but wow, that was more than I have ever heard her talk and she wasn't going into all the nitty gritty details. Glad I wasn't the one to have to take minutes. I would of had to video the whole thing with a directional mike to catch all the details, and you can't do that and take notes at the same time. Nice to also hear all the proposed improvements to the membership software detailed by Heather. I thought that Tom really directed the meeting well, sticking to the agenda, and having it out there for everyone to see, and getting the meeting back on track when ever a discussion started to run away, and focusing on solutions. ALL of the board members attending were well prepared and carried their share of the load in harmony, but not as a rubberstamp.

The cooks for the lunch all deserve attaboys and girls. Dutch oven cooking in a gusty, cool and damp wind can be challenging requiring more heat and more turning, and Y'all met the challenge. Delicious.

I would have met y'all at the other boat house to see the Dragon boats, but I lost who ever I was trying to follow in traffic, and then decided to keep on going home via I-40 since I was there as I was running low on batteries, other wise I would have turned around to help clean up and move chairs. Thanks again for being generous hosts. I know no one likes long meetings, but this was a good one. Supporting a board meeting takes time and effort most folks do not see, but I saw enough of what was done to know that y'all had it together.

Thanks to the Red Dirt Chapter for such a great meeting location and all the fine food! We had a good and productive meeting and then went and saw the most impressive boathouse I've ever seen. I had no idea that rowing was so big in OKC. Rows of 40k+ boats and an amazing facility.

Thanks again to you all,

Tom

I want to thank everyone for coming. We know we are on the outskirts of the club, but you guys make us feel very much a part of the club. I am sorry that we did not get to Dragonboat. I am still learning the ways of the B.O.D. I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves, I think they did. I want to say thank you also to Karen, Lorn, and my wife Joanna for helping make this a success.

Tom,
How about providing a rough Summary of what went on at the BOD meeting for those of us who couldn't make it? Thanks!
