Salado?
Re: Salado?
I wish I had more details of the event from the paddlers eyes but I've never even met them. I know one of the women is pediatrition outta Batesville, AR. Her husband was the man involved, but I didnt even know the third party's name. I was kinda hoping they might read the post and enlighten us on their cold horrific experience, but I dont think they even know of the message board and the awesome network of boaters on here. I was also hoping to talk with them, maybe even educate them a little, that is if their still interested in boating.

Re: Salado?
I don't think it got above 50 degrees all day Saturday on the Salado. The weatherman definately called it wrong.
Was it a blue Toyota FJ? We saw it at the rest area and wondered if the owners were on the river. The bumper stickers didn't make them look like paddlers, though, more like fishing enthusiasts.

Re: Salado?
SS - haven't been down the Salado since last spring - were there many downed trees? How long did it take your guys to get down - seems like it's usually been 4 to 4.5 hours for the groups I've been with.
All the paddlers involved with the walk out are ok - scratched and and one has a cold, but fortunate.

I believe it took us about 5 hours including a stop for lunch and a couple hikes up to waterfalls. There were two trees which required portaging (including the one that Roger had mentioned), and one with only a very narrow chute which would likely require portaging at any lower level.
Glad to hear that everyone involved is ok.

Hey David, did you ever hear what kind of boats they were paddling? I wondered if they might have been rec boats, given the fishing bumper sticker.
Re: Salado?
David said they were in WW boats. One paddler had experience and the other two were just starting out.
Late start, missed weather forecast, some swims, darkness catching them, etc. makes for a long day. On the hike out, one lost his shoes and so the others hiked ahead and were planning to go back for him.
