Question about roots in rapids...

I stopped by Kisatchie Falls yesterday and got some low water pictures. The first picture is what the wave looks like with water and the second one is without water. The next two pictures show the root systems downstream of the wave. I was planning to surf here, but after seeing these roots, I'm not so sure it's worth the risk. Do the rapids with roots up there look this nasty at low levels?

There's a few spots in the Ozarks where an undercut bank will expose roots like that but not too often. The bigger problem is just downed trees / logs creating strainers across the channels more so than root wads.
