Bridge out

Post by Flapjack » Sun Sep 20, 2009 11:57 am

Just llearned from Nick that the sand bar bridge, on the tot ,has been washed out in the last flood. To any body coming from in from the west this will make a big differene on how you get to the falls.

Was the bridge washed out, or the apron at the ends? That bridge has withstood some mighty big floods. dale

I heard thru the grape vine that the park serv. were doing repairs to the bridge. fyi they lost a crane to the mighty tot on the down stream side of the bridge, took forever to get the beast out of the water, glad they did.

Just to clariy - park service hired a contractor (not sure who) and they were doing the repair work. The contractor's crew left the crane on the bridge and that is why it ended up in the river. When Sabrina and I went to get video of them trying to pull it out, we talked to one of the park rangers and they didn't seem very happy about this incident. The contractors who were there trying to get the crane out of the river weren't happy that we (Sabrina and I) were trying to get footage of the whole thing

I'm sure they weren't. Letting a diesel-filled, greasy-axled crane get into a river is a big EPA no-no.

There are some steel girders where the bridge used to be, one of them is in the water on the right side. May be some new junk in the river too. Be careful there for a while.

By the time Gordon and I got there, they had it out of the river an on a trailer. Hauled it away while we were on the road. One guy remained filling in some potholes in the road and cleaning up the gravel bar. And none of us had a camera anyway.
