Here is where the pictures will be posted

Updates will be posted here.

UPDATE #3 WED SEP 23: STEEL CREEK - SHUTTLE 9AM
For those who would like to camp Friday night, it will be at Steel Creek. We will launch from the Steel Creek access Saturday morning. The shuttle to Kyles is a long one so we need to be at the Steel Creek launch area with gear unloaded and ready to shuttle at 9am.
-----------------------

UPDATE #2 TUE SEP 22: WEATHER & WATER
We will not be wanting for water. This has the potential to change our plans. The rule of thumb has been to follow the water, going upstream as the water level permits. We have the potential for rain and possible flooding into the weekend so watch here. If it turns out we have good water at Ponca, we will base camp rather than camp on gravel bar.

UPDATE #1 WED Sep 16: WOOLUM TO TYLER BEND - Good family float
We expect Hwy 65 water levels to be at 6.0 or above. If it drops below that we will adjust the plans.

Sunday Sep 27 at Tyler Bend pavilion 2PM - - Enjoy music by Shawn Porter & Pat Villines, ice cream & cookies, activities for the kids and door prizes. Come find out about the Buffalo National River Partners. http://www.ozarksociety.net/general%20m ... r91509.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

GENERAL INFORMATION:
By now you know the drill. Arriving Friday is optional. We shuttle Saturday morning and do most of the paddling on Saturday. We try to be off the river and headed home by noon on Sunday. Sitting around a campfire Friday and Saturday nights and enjoying each others company has become a tradition.

Questions and suggestions are welcome. You may post them here or email Richard at rmmcfadden@yahoo.com

Some things you need to know. We have never had a problem but just so everyone knows on the front end:
1. For liability purposes this is not an ACC/Ozark Society sponsored activity. You and only you are responsible for your own actions.
2. This is a family friendly float. Children are welcome.
3. Alcohol is not forbidden but drunkeness and abusive conduct is.
4. If you use "fowl" language or need to smoke, please do so away from the group.
5. Treat others as you would have them treat you. Maybe even nicer.

We have been doing these trips since Oct 2007. In that time we have never had a problem. Quite the contrary. On the floats so far, we have been impressed with how well everyone has adhered to #5. That is one reason we keep going back.

If you have never been, we look forward to meeting you on the river.

FOOD:
Because of the various arrival and departure times of participants the simplest approach to meals is for each person to be responsible for his/her own. That does not preclude participants from getting together and pooling efforts. It also does not preclude pot lucks. So if you want to get with others to plan meals thats good. If we decide to pot luck a meal or two that is fine as well. But the responsibility lies first with the individual.

Breakfasts and Suppers will be at camp. We will stop for lunch on the river.

This has worked well so far and creates the least hassle. And we can gather around the campfire after dinner. Campfires have been great.

If need be, we will have a kitchen tent set up with tables for food preparation.

GEAR:
Each person is responsible for providing their own food and gear appropriate for the weather and water conditions. If you are just getting into canoe/kayak camping and are lacking some items please let us know. So far no one has been turned away because of lack of gear.

State Laws
15 MPH speed limits are strictly enforced.
A PFD is required for each person. It must be worn by those under the age of 13.
The use of glass containers is prohibited within 100 feet the river.
Containers used for transporting food and beverages must be properly sealed.
When out of the cooler, beverages must be in a holder that floats or prevents the beverage from sinking.
A mesh container must be attached to the vessel suitable for collecting trash that can be securely closed.
All refuse, waste and trash must be transported to a place where they must be safely and lawfully disposed.

Richard, Count me in for next weekend. I have moved to Little Rock now and Jon is still in NW ARK. I think he will be riding over with Eric, and will float with me. Not sure on Eric. If Jon doesnt find a ride over, it will be just me....Pam

What are the chances, Richard, with all this rain and the levels now that something might be good upper Buffalo?

Gary and I might be there next weekend on Saturday.

Karla, the rain assures us that we will be able to float. However, it is no guarantee how much water we will have.
That applies especially to the upper river which is the first to drop. Because we are gravel bar camping and hoping for families to join us, we most likely will not be on the upper river but it is still too early to call.

Richard,
Wish I could join you all.
Family reunion comes first though. I'll be thinking about the current as I'm stuffing food down.

just got back from the beatiful buffalo. our run was mt. hersey to grinders ferry. the water level yesterday @ grinders ferry was around 6.5

water was up and moving but not bad at all. we had a great time and as always the river was great.

moving upstream would be fun - any section is great. the river is not lacking for water.

Hey Richard,
I'm hoping you might choose the Ponca area. Mike and I ran into some folks from Fayetteville at Ozark Cafe and they said their paddle trip was beautiful. Mike and I went into Ponca Access and the water looked great!
I have never floated that part of the Buffalo and would love to!

Also, the big, Bull Elks are out and about Ponca. We saw the BIG Bull with a huge rack laying in the grass with a bunch of the lady elk flaunting around him! Local rumor has it that he has the biggest rack of any elk alive ... and he is protected for any of you hunters out there!

also, a Bluegrass Festival in Ozark this weekend. Bradley Park!

I'll watch the board for updates!
Susan

If things are favorable we will base camp at Steel Creek(Roark) and put in at either Steel Creek or Ponca Bridge. We will take out at Kyles Landing.

Rodger and I talked about this weekend and with the uncertain weather we need to be flexible.
If we get rain on Friday we may want to go Waterfall hiking instead. The prime place to see is the Glory Hole. It has a very small watershed so timing is everything. It has the potential to be spectacular. Let us know what you think.
Stay tuned.

If the float goes, Bill and I will join you Saturday. I'm "unwalkable" for a few days, but sure can get in my boat. Gerry
