Rendezvous Rodeo -- Final Hometown Throwdown of the Year

Post by Jeremy M » Thu Sep 10, 2009 11:56 am

Rendezvous will be the venue for the final Hometown Throwdown of 2009. I'm looking again for suggestions on the format. Post your suggestions and if your idea is chosen, FREE MOUNTAIN KHAKIS!!!

The event will be held at Rockport on the Park side (not porterfields) on Saturday from 2-4 p.m.

Lets hear some ideas!!

A couple of ideas I had offhand were:

1. The blind boatercross = basically you paddle blindfolded from above the rapid around the eddy rock and ferry ( if ya can ) back across the wave to the steps. You would have a partner yelling for you to turn upstream, keep paddling, go left or right..etc. ( The kicker is...all the partners will be yelling...so unless you know their voice..who do you listen to? )MUAHAHAHA!

2. The ball race = would consist of all boaters having their own personalized beach ball to boatercross/rodeo across the finish line..using only their paddle or boat for help..no hands...no resting ball on boat bow..etc.

3. You bring it, you surf it rodeo = In the tradition of cardboard boat races..instead each competitor makes their own cardboard craft, and rodeos/surfs it for points. You could also do a boatercross with these, and see who has the best design. Whoever sinks, obviously didn't. Youd have to pre-register people for it, so they would have time to make themselves a craft of choice. Only cardboard could be used..and whatever you have to glue it together with.

There are a few, I'll work on more though.

I'm making a serious effort to get to the Vous this year and will bring the generator and PA so we can blast out some tunes on river left. I brought the gear to the Surf N Turf but was too busy go make it to river left.

If you want to use it for an MC to announce stuff we can try that as well.

Pretty sure there'll be some sort of trip on Saturday.

I kind of like Joe's idea of building what you surf and a "ball race", but I'm sure there are some other good ideas floating around out there. Let's hear em!

Whatever we do we need to make sure we have a "Mature Paddler" category for folks with 30-pack vs 6-pack abs!

My patented move is the "Old Fartwheel". Am also pretty darn good at the "Unintendo" and the "Make Wind-O-Shade".

Am best though at sipping a cold one and watching you young'uns Huckin it up!

I just had another one ...

The "Under duress rodeo" = while a contestant is in the rodeo hole throwing down, they are assaulted with water canons and soaked sponges, while dodging empty boats being sent through the wave by people upstream.

A true test of skills...and plenty of carnage. It's a winner for sure.

First up....Renee. :poke: just for not liking my idears. heh

Joe I like your last idea, but I think if you made it a rodeo competition/slash dodge ball avoidance game. Give everyone a couple 30 second rides and see who can throwdown the biggest/most while avoiding the most dodge balls. You don't have to use dodge balls, but maybe those water absorbent balls.

Hmmm....dodgeball Rodeo? Boogie Board Competition? Blind Fold Boatercross? There's got to be a way to combine these ideas into one big fun filled carnage fest.

Well Matt liked it, so apparently you are alone.

Shocker.

Joe

Actually Matt, that was kinda the idea. I had forgotten about the absorbant dodgeball type things. Between that and water canons, and whatever else comingat em through the waves..I'm thinking it would be a real challenge. :D
