Rendezvous Youth Intro to Kayaking, Parents read this!
Hi everyone! My name is Sabrina Mellor and I will be the instructor for the class at the lake, not Porterfield! Everyone in the class needs to be prepared for the class.
Parents this is for you, Make sure they have the right gear. I will post what the forcast is before class. In the past some of the students have not had enough clothing to stay warm, or no gear at all. If you need something let me know I have some spare gear that fits most kids in the class. I will also bring two extra boats, skirts, and paddles.
Let your children know that they will be wet and have to do a wet exit. Do not bring a sick child to the class as I will not allow them to padddle with the class. I don't want anyone to be dissappointed if they show up sick and can't boat. Please don't take this the wrong way, I am looking out for everyone's saftey and well being and that is all. Paddling sick is no fun anyway. I hope everyone understands. I really dont want this thread to be negative in anyway
I look forward to seeing all the Youth in the class and hearing from the parents and students if they like or have any questions.

Ryan I beleive it is 6 to 14. I don't know that this is set in stone as far as ages go. Just email or post and I will let you know if the student is good to go.

I am interested in more information. My 6 and 8 yo kids are very interested, but we are without gear at the moment. Please post a link to details about when and where....

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure you and I are both ineligible. (I think they're going by chronological age, not mental age...)Ryan Center wrote:Sabrina, you have an age limit for this class?

Best way to get a good map, go to
http://maps.google.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and then paste these numbers in, and press "Search Maps"

If my daughter wants to go, she is 8 and would probably love to join yall. She has all the gear needed.

Sabrina,
I'm scheduled to lead a lake 'tour' on Saturday and am fairly sure, if there's any interest at all in my venue, it will be older folks as in the past.
At any rate, I don't have much equipment useful to smaller kids to offer but wanted to mention I do have 2 PFDs suitable for smaller kids I will bring them should they be needed for your class. I can also offer a couple of rec. boats although they are 10 footers.
Best Regards
Jim

Thanks for all the responses. Jim that would be great if you brought the gear you have. Ryan sure send her my way, but don't get mad if she is better than you in a short amount of time. If your child does not have gear pm me and I will work to see that we have enough for all the students.
Cowper you are much to old to be in the class but if you want to help, I will make an exception just for you.
