Anyone ever stayed at the Buffalo Outdoor Center Cabins?

Post by lbaker » Mon Aug 24, 2009 7:15 pm

They look really nice and they have some available the week of Thanksgiving. Any other recommendations for the upper Buffalo area? There will likely be about 4 of us to share the cost.
Thanks,
Leigh

Some of them are really plush... really! But, they also have some down on the road next to the office that are clean & pretty reasonably priced.

Nothing negative about BOC, other possible options you might also want to look at are Steel Creek Cabins ....and it used to be there were off-season rates at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch back when the climbing wasn't as well known. I haven't checked recently.

Lost Valley Canoe in Ponca also has cabins. I've never stayed in them (I'm usually backpacking when in the Buff area) but I know folks who say they're nice and less expensive than some of the BOC cabins. Link below:

Look up Crawford's cabins, near Jasper/Pruitt. Very nice, very reasonable.

My wife and I have stayed at alot of different cabins around Newton county over the past ten years. So much we finally bought our own.

Try http://www.ozarkcabins.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Autumn Breeze and Walnut Grove...the Cochran's are really nice peaple. Red Rock Retreat's Hickory Hill cabin. Small beds, great cabin. Sandy and Kraut are really nice.

Also http://www.upperbuffaloriver.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The Leatherwood House tucked away near Ponca high above Leatherwood Creek in a very dark private hollow. This was one of favorites. A little pricier than the others. Nice house with bedrooms at opposite end of house. Big deck with Living kitchen that offers the same view as the deck. Really nice owners, can't remember how to spell the last name.

Stayed at both Steel Creek Cabins. One was a bunk house. The other had a too small living area, but a killer view. Wouldn't recommend this.

All these places are very private.

We've stayed at BOC once, nice but very high priced. Not so private.

Ron Crawford sold us our cabin, they have a nice place. This is right by highway 7 and not so private. Just make sure you are comfortable with extreme right wing politicAll the ones I've recommended will hold 4 with comfort.

Hope this helped.

I will throw in my two cents for leather wood house. The place is very hidden up by steel creek. The guy has a nice place and was cool about us having a pet. Seems like the price was fluid if he wasn't booked. We wheeled in on the spar of the moment at night, stayed till the next afternoon and never even saw the owners or anyone else.

Horshoe Canyon Ranch is a great place. Real nice cabins and not too far from Kyles Landing. Call for prices, I think they are about $85.00 a night.

Check out Ozark Bluff Dwellers, owned and run by a co-workers' parents. I haven't stayed there, but sure would like to as they look awesome!
