We have a group of four that is planning on floating the AGFC canoe trail at Wattensaw Bayou near Hazen, AR on Sunday, August 23. Hazen is about 50 miles from Little Rock on I-40 towards Memphis. The plan is too stay on the marked trail. The length of the trip will depend on whether we can arrange a shuttle and how long the group wants to stay on the water. My plan is a minimum of around four hours on the water, even if it is an in and out from the same access point. This will be a flat water float. A little rain would help but a lot of rain will probably cancel the float. Fast water through the trees does not meet expectations of casual flat water float. Current plan is to meet in Hazen around 10 AM. Location to be named later. Please post if you would like to join us. You can contact me by email at msullivan57@att.net. More information can be found at the AGFC web site located here:

Thinking... DeBo and I may join...
Check your PM's too
UPDATE: OK, DeBo and I ARE in, but we've talked Mike into a location change. We've going to the Cache instead, which is the most likely location of a future Water Trail.
Meeting Time: 10 still good.
Meeting Place: Bald Knob. Hwy 167, Take Hwy 64 exit, McDonalds on Right as you come down the ramp
(N35.3178 W91.562)
"Most Likely" Put in: N35.2257 W91.253 (Hwy 260 West of Grays)
"For Sure" Take out: N35.1517 W91.288 (Rex Hancock Road)
(If you're not into GPS, fear not, go to http://maps.google.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and just paste those numbers into the Search bar and hit "search maps". That map will show the exact location far better than I could describe it.)

Great trip. Around 5.5 miles on the Cache River near Augusta, in and around the Rex Hancock WMA. Beautiful scenery and good company. Thanks Cowper and Debo for the guided tour. And thanks to my sister Mary Anne for sacrificing herself to get her clumsy brother over that log. Try to make the next bayou trip. Promise you'll enjoy it. Here are a few photos:

Thanks for posting, but more importantly, thanks for "instigating" this trip. It was good to get back to the swamps again!
Minus list:
1) Only "frontal" photo was of me; thank goodness it was taken from a "safe" distance
2) I didn't see much wildlife this time (my own fault for making too much noise)
3) Log diving carnage, and I missed it
Plus list:
1) Trip happened
2) DeBo and I were on time (mark it on your calendar)
3) Photos posted
4) Got to run my chainsaw
5) Didn't hear about the possible alligator sighting until AFTER I finished sawing in chest-deep water

After several unsuccessful attempts to register, I have just obtained legal status as a user on this site. I wanted to say a belated thanks to Cowper and Debo for a wonderful float down the Cache River a few Sundays ago. I'm a huge reptile/animal lover and Debo was a fantastic guide in the identification of several of the snake buddies we encountered.
Hey Debo...I'm anxiously awaiting the posting of that schedule of floats you mentioned you're putting together. I'm hoping to explore more of the "great frontiers" of water that exist... and maybe I'll also get to meet a few more gators and snakes!
