rocket boxes
Is there any reason a used Pelican case wouldn't work? What would be the smallest size to use with a layer of the foam liner left in and still hold a full wag bag?

Re: rocket boxes
Butch, I am assuming you are planning on carrying out human waste. Pelican boxes would probably work.
Pelican boxes are pretty expensive and might work to hold groover waste.
My choice is a rocket box in good shape and rubber seal that is intact.
Reason being, rocket boxes are relatively cheap. I have seen surplus stores offering them for as little as 20 bucks here in Tulsa.
Rocket boxes have become the de facto standard dimensions for most frames. They fit perfectly in my rowing compartment.
Rocket boxes are about as bombproof as any container can be if properly closed and the rubber seal is maintained.
Tuff River stuff in salida CO has a nice padded container for rocket boxes. I purchased one and use it for rocket boxes I carry on my Aire 143 self bailer raft.
On a recent hot weather trip rowing the big cat with a plywood floor, I had two rocket boxes (one on each side of the rowing compartment) full of poo and other nasty things. During the days on the river I felt glad that I had real metal between me and the contents of those boxes, especially in the hot sun. I did carefully open them after unloading gear each day just enough to let any built up gases escape. I know pelican and other plastic boxes are pretty well built. But for me there is a good feeling knowing that I have good ole US Army Spec metal between me and a poo shower.

Re: rocket boxes
No reason a Peli wouldn’t work, Butch.
If you are going to plan on “a” wagbag, an 1150 might work, but I’d use a 1200 min. The newer Peli’s have a purge valve that would work for equalizing any pressure built up in heat, and I have never seen a Peli break.
But if it were me I would save my expensive Peli for something other than carrying one wagbag of waste. I’d probably use a coffee can or a plastic jar with screw lid of some kind before I did that. If I am just going overnight and am not going to be carrying for multiple days, I don’t even use a hard container. I just toss it in my trash bag. Never had a problem so far.

Re: rocket boxes
Thanks for the info.
Found a couple of 17 x 10 x 6 ammo boxes relatively cheap. I think that's the way I'll go.
By the way, re: recent conversation about tp blooms on the Buffalo. Y'all need to come down this fall & winter for some of our Red River floats in SW Arkansas & NW Louisiana. Catholes aren't a problem when you're camping on a 400-500 acre sandbar and not many folks using the river for our kind of floats anyway. Plenty of firewood (we've burned rootballs big as a VW) and panoramic views - http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/561462395TCQWbk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: rocket boxes
When I was a kid, my uncle bought two or three truck loads of 'Rocket Boxes' from the ammunition factory/depot at East Camden, they were wooden boxes about 3-4feet long that indeed had contained rockets. We bought them to disassemble for the lumber in our spare time then build everything from bird boxes to sheathing his deer camp lodge with the material(my job as a little kid was to straighten nails...) From my own experiences in the Army, the metal cans now so often mentioned for floating uses I would have to refer to them as 'ammo' boxes.:)
