Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 12, 2009 and help clean up the shorelines of lakes Hamilton and Catherine and the Ouachita River between Remmel Dam and Malvern and area roads in Hot Spring County and Garland County. Besides beautifying our community, you’ll get a chance to win great prizes, as well as enjoy good food and a free pass through Garvan Woodland Gardens.

This event will consist of a three-hour public cleanup effort (8 – 11 a.m.) of the shorelines and surrounding areas. The clean-up event will be followed by an appreciation/award luncheon (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) at Garvan Woodland Gardens. The appreciation luncheon is for registered participants of the clean-up only and will include food and drinks, awards, prize drawings, educational booths and a free pass to tour the gardens.

There will be prize drawings throughout the luncheon. Grand prize will be a laptop computer. Only registered participants are eligible for the prize drawings and must be present to win. You are encouraged to bring the whole family. Participants with boats are needed.

Individual participants are to register for the three-hour cleanup between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. at one of the following check stations where they will obtain trash bags and dispose of collected trash. On Lake Catherine, the sites are Lake Catherine State Park’s boat ramp, Remmel Dam Park, Diamondhead Marina, and Carpenter Dam Park. On Lake Hamilton, participants may check in at Sunnybrook Landing on Carpenter Dam Road, Hulsey Fish Hatchery’s boat ramp, Hill Wheatley Park off Majestic Lodge Road, Coast Guard Auxiliary Station near Treasure Isle Road or at Power Boats, Inc. on AR-7 South.
