Creek that flows into the little mo below the stair case

Post by Heath » Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:13 pm

Did any of you little Mo boaters notice how much water was coming in on Sat???????????????????????

Rand y Jackson and my self carried up and rain from the second set of caves down.

was wondering who else has done this and if anyone knows the name of the creek.

Booftexas? James if your reading the boarding chim in.

I have ran the little mo at over 100+ on the 84 bridge, but have never seen the creek with this much water in it.

Can't find a name on the maps. I've been calling it Winding Stairs Creek.

Brier Creek and Viles Branch Creek are two creeks that enter from river right.

Best Regards

We noticed that when we ran it saturday at a fat level. When we hit those it turned the run into a big water western feel to it. I have Mt. biked across the 1st one coming in and thought there might be a decent run on it. Looked like some decent boulder jumbles higher up with no flow in it.

When the little Mo gets where the 48 inch marker is barely visable there is some incredable play on that run. I wished I had my playboat that day.

Creek in question enters Little Mo from the east, running right along the county line between Little Raven Mountain and Paul Mountain. Had 2-3 fun little drops on it, and it looked like there was more on upstream, but a little manky. Sorry - no pix.
Let there be rain!

I saw Rayzr and maybe others hike up and run the lower part several years ago; I believe Mackey got some vid. footage; don't know if he still has it.

We figured others have run it. I was just amazed at how much water was in it considering the level of the little mo.

The name of the creek on river left below winding stair w/ several caves is the Raven Branch.Amy and I used to spend a lot of time up there. Thats awesome you fellas got slammed enough to bring that up!I always wanted to see that w/ water!Heath,Rayzr,Lazer, etc. I hope that you guys take a sierra trip next year. Amy and I are expecting you all! We have not been on any natural flow lately, but we still have dam releases to rely on. We just went to the North Feather http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... il/id/196/not long ago. (Tobin/Lobin run) Next weekend Im going to try to rally to Fordyce creekhttp://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... il/id/199/ and check it out! Loving the Sierra's but missing everyone back home! Chase some rain for us, JOE C.

thanks for the invite Boof,, hope to get back out that way.

The few drops that we ran were really fun. I no a few others that have hiked more of it. I just dont know how you would get to the top without hikeing in.

I've hiked a pretty good ways up the creek, and it can be run for most of the section that i hiked up. There is an extremely old road that comes down the mountain on river right, and i'm not sure where it comes out, but it almost certainly has to come out somewhere on the road that heads to albert pike. The park service has probablly blocked the road off, but you could probably still put in somewhere up above and not have to carry up from the bottom. It gets really pretty once you get farther up the creek, and really steep, but like i said most of it looked runnable with some really nice drops. Would liked to have seen it up that high. We got on the upper lil mo sunday and that creek still had more water than i've ever seen in it.
