How Big A Boy Are Ya?!?!?

Post by GN YAKN » Tue Jul 21, 2009 10:17 am

To all my size 14 footed friends out there. I've got a buddy that is really anxious to get into WW kayaking. I'll have to check his actual stats but he is tall and solid. Maybe 6'1" and 230 or so with size 13 water skis.

We tried to put him in a Dagger Redline that I have and he got in it but it wasn't very comfortable. Had to go barefoot and go in with a shoe horn. The thigh braces could probably be swapped out and make it a little better.

If you bigguns out there would throw out some ideas about what make and model of boats work for big boys we would appreciate the input.

Thnx,

Dave

Dave, the Pyranha Everest or the Jackson Mega Rocker would probably work. I love my Everest, at 290#, it's the first boat I have ever been able to paddle and not get pushed around.

Ryan is taller than I am and I'm 6'2"+. A Jackson Super Fun might work too. That's what I paddle. I'm at 205ish right now but when I got it about 2 years ago I was at about 240lbs. I took out the "happy feet" bags and wear a low profile bootie and it works fine.
I'll have it at S N T this weekend if your buddy wants to come and try it.

I'm 6'6", skinny, and with sized 14AAA feet, that's one of the main reasons I dearly love my two Overflow Xs. I know, old school :)

I'm 6'4" 230 lb with long legs and 13s
definitely spend the day in various boats...

i've ended up with a Jackson fleet at the moment.

MegaRocker is plenty big for all day paddling in thick winter gear. I like the seat WAY forward so i've carved out most of the foot minicell. so my heels/toes are pressing on the hull but doable. very enjoyable boat.

the 2008 SuperFun... this boat is a huge river runner. I actually pump up the Happy Feet to bring it back to me in summer. I can wear winter gear in it. the inside paddles bigger than MegaRocker to me since I have the seat more centered. very enjoyable boat.

I've got a 2007 SuperStar I'm likely selling (trying to decide if i'll lose a few pounds)... it's ultra playboat tight. barefoot and shorts only... and i'm concerned about taking it to very pushy water since i'm floating it very low (hence the run to buy a SFun)... so it's sporty... but not very versatile for me.
How long is the drive?

Ask JOE TARVER, I am very surprised he has not answered this post. As he is usually really good about offering his opinion. It seems he would probably be really informative about paddling big boy boats. :poke:

I'm in the 6'3+, 205 with a wide 14 foot..

Most of the modern day boats that are in my size/weight range I fit in pretty well. The real problem that I see in boats is more of a body thickness problem rather than a height/foot issue. As Phil posted above, his SuperStar is too small for him. We are basically the same height but he weighs 25lbs more than I do. I think the SuperStar is close to being too big for me.

I paddle a Pyranha 420 M-L as my playboat. Last summer I weighed around the 180lb mark.. Quit smoking last fall and bumped up 25lbs so Now I fit snugly in my 420. My 'Jefe still fits me good or maybe even better.

Have your friend try as many boats as possible.. Being a big footed person I would have to say stay away from old school boats with foot pegs.. Newer boats are a whole different world..
